What does work life balance mean to you? Last month, I took on a challenge: volunteering full time at a youth center abroad, in Sauga - Estonia, while managing a full-time job. I led workshops on cultural awareness and diversity, and honestly, it was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. This experience gave me a chance to grow personally while making an impact in a way that really matters to me. For me, work-life balance isn’t about escaping work—it’s about creating space for growth in all areas of life. It’s about setting boundaries, finding flexibility, and focusing on what’s important. I wish more 9-5ers knew that work-life balance is a myth. Corporations use the term "Work-Life Balance" as a way to make the employee feel as if their personal lives are valued by the organization, but even the most well-intentioned companies still have employees working at least 40 hours a week. After commuting, sleeping, chores and child care, the average 9-5 employee has around 24 hours of free time a week. That's not balance, or enough time, in my book. And just think of how you feel, how you spend your time; I've spent over 17 years as a 9-5er and my weekends were spent recouperating from the work week, going grocery shopping, cleaning and other chores. I barely had time for fun. I missed out on so many family celebrations, vacations, adventures... Instead of striving for this, it's time we focus on creating Work-Life Alignment to truly unlock fulfillment, happiness and autonomy. Ready to learn how?
