Even some of my friends who are starting to play #padel regularly are still skeptical that it's nothing more than a passing fad (and they can't remotely understand why I dedicate so much time and effort to writing about it). The other day one of them said to me, "Yeah, I know padel might be getting big in places like #Florida and #Texas, but how many other states even have more than one padel club... one or two?" Obviously, #NewYork and #California immediately sprung to mind (thanks in large part to the efforts of multi-club operators like Padel Haus and Taktika Padel) -- but then I really started to think about it and go through my notes... And what I discovered is that thanks to the efforts of people and clubs like Andres (Tito) Moreno and AMET International... Patricio Misitrano and The Sports Haus... Sam Markle and Smash Padel and Pickleball Club... Padel Plant... Tim Bainton and Epic Padel Inc... Aditya Khilnani and Sensa Padel... Benji Markoff and Padel United Sports Club... RCW Athletic Club, and so many others, there are actually 15 states that now have more than one padel club (or will very soon). I was both honored and excited to recently be asked to help edit the Global Padel Report 2024 from PLAYTOMIC and Strategy& -- an in-depth, 48-page research #report that was released just this morning and is widely considered to be among the most important and informative publications about the global #padel landscape. There are some really interesting and impressive stats in it about the growth of the #sport around the world, like the fact that, on average, 𝟓𝟏 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐛𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟏𝟏𝟏 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑. Yesterday, the much-anticipated PLAYTOMIC Global Padel Report 2024 was released! Produced in partnership with PwC's Business Strategy Consultancy Arm Strategy&, this report is widely dubbed as the "Padel Bible" and provides key insights into a sport that has taken the world by storm! Here are some key highlights from the report that we think you'll find interesting: 🌍 Global Growth - South Africa is making waves with the 9th highest growth globally! 🌟 - Denmark, Portugal, and the Netherlands lead the pack, securing the top 3 spots respectively. - In 2023 alone, over 2,500 padel clubs opened, averaging 51 new clubs every week! 🏟️ - Nearly 6,000 new courts were built worldwide, with 111 new courts added weekly. - Global padel courts grew by 16% in 2023. France topped the list with a 45% increase, adding 673 new courts. - Spain (16,126) and Italy (8,347) remain leaders in total court numbers. 📈 Trends and Projections - Key growth drivers include advancements in technology and increased professionalisation. - Emerging regions with high potential face challenges with real estate prices and regulations. The growth trajectory is expected to be fuelled by the significant uptake in these key regions. - The UK is on a steady rise, with potential acceleration expected in late 2024 or early 2025. - Germany’s growth may be slowed by regulatory hurdles. - Despite the buzz, the US saw limited court growth in 2023, but 2024 is expected to be a breakthrough year. Watch out pickleball!  - By 2026, there will be nearly 70,000 padel courts worldwide! Growth is projected to stabilise at a healthy 17% annual rate, slightly below the exceptional rate (20%) observed in post-COVID years. 🏓 Player Insights - Padel is cherished as both a social and competitive sport, valued for its exercise benefits and social nature. - It's an inclusive game that embraces everyone, playable by almost everyone regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status, or physical condition. 🚧 Barriers to Play - Difficulty finding available courts. - Challenges in finding players of similar skill levels. - The time-consuming nature of coordinating matches. What Are Your Padel Centre Non-Negotiable's ❓ As Padel continues to grow and more centres are emerging, the variation from centre to centre has started to become more apparent. Of course, there are always going to be differences between clubs depending on a number of factors (Location, Size and Objectives). But..what are the non-negotiable's a centre should always account for? 📚 Regular Coaching (for me the most important) - By providing players with feedback, education and motivation, coaches will ensure player's constantly develop their game. This will help a centre to retain players, from beginners through to advanced athletes. 🏆 Events and Tournament's - We all know the social aspect of Padel is a huge catalyst for growth. By hosting tournament's/events a centre will form an engaging community, attract external players and maximise facility utilisation. At Golden Point Padel UK, I have been lucky to witness first-hand how important events are for the growth of Padel here in the UK and the excitement they bring to a community. This is something I believe is significant for the long-term future of Padel. 👥 Social Space - Whether that is in the form of a bar/cafe or simply a seating area, the importance of giving players the chance to socialise pre/post match is significant. The Rome Major strongly captivated fans with unexpected upsets and impressive performances by rising stars. EUROPE The European Padel Championships held in Portugal saw record participation, with teams from over 20 countries competing. ASIA The inaugural Asian Padel Cup in Dubai was a major success, featuring teams from across the continent.
