This week, we're celebrating and honouring the 911 dispatchers that serve our community 365 days of the year! Have you ever had to call 911? In case of an emergency, here are some helpful tips to keep in mind: 🚒 Give as much detail about your location as possible (e.g., address, intersection, coordinates) at the beginning of the call in case your call gets disconnected. Also let the call taker know if there are any issues crews should know about at your address or location (i.e., is your address clearly visible from the street? is your driveway plowed of snow and accessible for emergency responders?). 🚒 Let the call taker guide the conversation. They will ask everything they need to know to dispatch the appropriate emergency services to your location and they'll help you stay calm. Follow their directions, they are the experts! 🚒 Don't hang up - even if you dialed 911 by accident. Stay on the phone and let the call taker know that you don't need emergency services... that way, emergency services won't be mistakenly dispatched to your location.

🚨 Real-time Rescue: A Story of Precision and Care 🚨 On May 1st, at 11:42 AM, teamwork and technology came together to transform an urgent call for help into a successful rescue mission. The call was for a 28-year-old hiker in Santa Cruz County with a possible broken leg along Madera Canyon. The Valley Emergency Communications Center (VECC) sprang into action, leveraging RapidDeploy’s #RadiusMapping to gather vital information, such as the name of the victim, emergency contacts, and medical info, all from the initial cell signal. VECC responders then initiated a text conversation with the victim, which not only provided immediate reassurance to the victim but also pinpointed the hiker's precise location as she sought shade. With RapidDeploy’s #breadcrumbs, a trail of live updates became the blueprint for the rescue operation, guiding rescuers directly where to go in the vast mountain. Now armed with a clear rescue plan, and data from #RapidLocate, the response teams made contact just over 2 miles up the trail—using actionable information to make critical decisions that led to the location and rescue of the victim. A heartfelt thank you to the VECC team and the brave rescue crews. Your commitment to rapid, informed action is truly making a difference. #GVFDPIO #drexelfire #tubacfire #firefighterlife #Teamwork #RescueMission #EveryMomentMatters #missionmatters #telecommunicator #publicsafety #govtech #ng911 #911Dispatch NENA: The 9-1-1 Association APCO International National Association of State 911 Administrators (NASNA)
