Part 2/2 Perception Change and Thinking Out of the Box but how? continued.... But I realized i had an EMI coming up fast and had to make the payment. So, I asked myself, what can I do to get better sales and maybe even hit my target? This quickly got me out of my victim state of mind and into a lets turn things around and make the most of the situation state of mind. I realized that all my Sales "Pallaba" would be useless if it was not accompanied with a strong Visual. But what visual? A visual that gave a sense of added Value i realized. At that time, simcards did not have any packaging and were distributed like visiting cards. So, the visual had to be some kind of packaging I said to myself. Then I asked what kindly of packaging could invoke a sense of value and help change the perception of a customer, the answer was clear to me. Gold!!!!!! The majority of Indians invested in Gold Jewellery back then. Not in Stock or Gold Bonds but proper tangible Gold Jewellery. The purchase of a piece of Gold Jewellery also gave a sense of deep satisfaction to Indians and a feeling of having done something right and a feeling of having made it in this world financially in some small way atleast. So there it was!!!!!! I went to a Jewellery shop and purchased a bunch of small Red Velvet cloth pouches at Rupees 2.50 per pouch. It was the same kind of pouch that jewellers would pack their small Jewellery in. The next visit to the Auto parts trader, I put a Sim card in that pouch. Went through the usual routine and ended up selling two sims instead of One!!! That month my sales went up exponentially and I ended up being one of the top Sales Person. I never spoke a word about anything different with the sim I sold or never spoke of anything about the product that wasn't true. My sales pitch was the same as before but now, the way the customers viewed the Sim was completely different, they saw Value in it, the pouch reminded them of the most valuable asset in their eyes they coud buy. The 2.50 rupee pouch, changed their Perception!!!!! I realized that day that: 1. Most People are not Price conscious but Value conscious. 2. Thinking out of the box does not mean re-inventing the wheel but rather looking at it from a different perspective and spinning it differently. 3. Instead of Playing Victim, don't be afraid to try things no matter how absurd it may seem at that time. 4. Don't be afraid to Fail!!!!!! #thinkoutofthebox #perception #sales
