Our new Udemy research - The Promise of the Skills-Based Organization - reveals how companies are navigating the transformation to becoming a Skills-Based Organization (SBO). "For employers, focusing on skills — more than on academic degrees or specific professional experience — has a dual advantage. They (employers) can be more precise in hiring individuals whose skills are well fitted to the need, while also broadening the pool of potential hires beyond those with a more narrow set of traditional qualifications." Download the 24-page report for the complete picture.

"Tell me about your learning and development program." As Head of Customer Success at Compt, I often ask this question during interactions with HR leaders. Here's what happens: HR leaders start with pride: 💪"We have a great budget!" 💪"We offer amazing courses!" 💪"We support certifications!" Then their voice changes: ☹️"But...no one's using it." 😔"But...we can't track it." 😭"But...it's too complicated." Our research shows this gap is costing you: 1️⃣800% in productivity potential 2️⃣49% in retention challenges 3️⃣22% competitive edge to smaller companies Here's what actually works: ✅Audit your access points. How many steps are between desire and development? Each one costs you talent. ⏲️Ask your team to request learning funding. Time yourself. If it takes more than 5 minutes, it's too long. ✍️Track questions for a week. If you're answering the same ones repeatedly, you have a systems problem. ⌚Calculate hours spent on administration vs. actual development. This ratio predicts program success. It's not a quick or a one-time fix, but it's certainly steps in the right direction. And if you need help designing an L&D stipend program, that's what I'm here for. Feel free to reach out! 🙂

One of the things that drew me to Udemy was I knew I'd get to work on data, data, and more data! I'm excited to share our latest report, covering the promise (and opportunities) of the skills-based organization. TLDR: More organizations are putting a premium on skills and experience and less on traditional forms of qualification like title, position, and college degree. This is great news, but there is still work to be done to make the transition to skills-based hiring equitable and accessible for all. Read more here 👇

Up to 70% That's how much employees forget within the first week of attending one-off training sessions. This means that when it comes to developing your team, the real issue isn't providing the training—it's making sure it sticks. I've been reflecting on how training has been applied throughout my career and wanted to explore the real data behind the methods across a series of conversations. Here's what the data says; ⬆️ 37% 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆*: Ongoing training helps employees retain and apply skills over time, leading to steady productivity growth (*Harvard Business Review). 🎯 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Employees forget up to 70% of what they learn* from one-time events within a week (*Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve). Multiple training sessions help reinforce knowledge and combat this. 🙋♂️ 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Employees in a strong learning culture are 4.5x more likely to stay* with their company, leading to lower turnover rates (*LinkedIn Workplace Learning Report). 💡 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Companies offering regular learning are 46% more likely to lead* in their industry (*Deloitte). So, the data shows that continuous learning is key to many of the metrics that we hold ourselves to throughout the business world, but how many of us can hold a hand up and say they have a 12-month development plan for either your team or, more importantly, yourself? #Training #LearningAndDevelopment #ContinuousImprovement #EmployeeEngagement #Leadership #Productivity #Innovation #HR
