Scottish Water have published their live 'overflow' map this week. As always we welcome this transparency, and it will allow surfers, swimmers and paddlers to have real time pollution updates to some of the most spectacular areas of water in the UK. Sadly it also highlights that the issues of sewage pollution are not just restricted to privatised companies in England, and lack of investment over decades in our sewage infrastructure spans all four nations. As we post this, sewage is being discharged at the harbour mouth in Thurso. That means it's flowing out through the line-up of arguably the UK's best wave, Thurso East, past host of world tour events, and one of the cradles of Scottish surfing...😠 You can find the live map here - https://lnkd.in/eRdy6GWc

What do you think of when you think of Cornwall? Rick Stein? Second homes? Lovely countryside? Sunny beaches? Surfing? Pirates? Smugglers? Traffic jams in the summer? Deprivation? Hang on, did you say deprivation? What a county of contrasts. The rich the poor. The rolling in it. The wish we could afford to roll in it. I do not begrudge at all Cornwall having very frequent Great Western Railway (GWR) 4 and 5 coach local train services from Plymouth to Penzance, which perform an important public service connecting the local Cornish communities. If only we had more of these class 158s from Sheffield to Manchester every hour! As Chris Morgan of Friends of Dore & Totley Station has pointed out, even an East Midlands Railway 6 car train first thing on a Sunday morning is not enough to cope with Hope Valley passenger demand. Photo: Camborne, Cornwall. The 05.51 Exeter to Penzance with 158767 and 158748 in charge heads to Penzance.

🌊🌿 Bio-Security in Open Water: A Swimmer's Guide 🌱🏊♀️ Every dip in the lake, every stroke in the river, connects us more deeply with nature. But it's our duty to ensure our swimming adventures don't leave a negative impact. Bio-security measures are essential in safeguarding our waters from invasive species and preserving the delicate ecosystem balance. Gear Sanitisation: Always clean your swimming equipment after each use, especially when moving between different water bodies. Choose Wisely: Opt for sunscreens and body care products that are eco-friendly and don't harm aquatic life. Educate and Engage: Spread the word among fellow swimmers and community members about the importance of bio-security practices. Let's make every swim a step towards healthier waters! The Surf Management Plan: In the eyes of the modern world, many still consider PNG to be relatively ancient by virtue of a contrasting landscape, its people and old customs. At the same time in regard to surfing in PNG, we are surpassing current expectations and are at the cutting edge with a new world approach - namely sustainability and longevity. Working together, the SAPNG in conjunction with the surf industry, tourism operators and traditional reef custodians, have developed a unique and defining feature that crystalizes a truly memorable PNG surf experience - SMP's ( Surf Management Plan). In addition the SMP initiatives provide for: - Recognition of traditional rights - Growth of community development initiatives - Fostering good community relations - Sustainable quotas to avoid surfer overcrowding - Conservation and awareness of the marine environment / Tourism, awareness benefits and participation. Visionary? nol Simply seeing the future in the light of the past - Awareness! #png #surfingpng #papuanewguinea #sapng #visitpapuanewguinea #conservationinternational #worldsurfingreservevisioncouncil #savethewavescoalition #internationalsurfingassociation #worldsurfleague #oceaniasurfingfederation https://lnkd.in/gYE6ptPc

**TIDE TABLE FOR SEPTEMBER 2024 IN SOUTHEND ON SEA 🌊⏰🛥️⛲⚓🛟** Note: Tide times are always an approximation as tides and sea current strength are influenced by the prevailing weather conditions and Moon cycles (Spring and Neap tides). Southend-on-Sea is a tidal flood plain. The tide retreats some 1+ mile offshore and comes back twice each day (approx every 12.5hrs from low tide to low tide), knowing tide times will ensure you are not caught out on the water. Knowing how to find tide information is important if you are planning on visiting the coast whether for the beach with your family or planning to go out onto the water in a vessel or water craft (paddle boarding, kite surfing etc). You can find tide information across a wide spectrum of platforms, including ‘apps’ for your phone which is the easiest way to access tide information at your fingertips or you can call up ’Southend tide times’ on your internet search engine which will provide the same information. Tide times are also published at various points across the Southend seafront (outside Pier & Foreshore offices) and published in local papers. Timetable key; H.W = High Water (High Tide) L.W = Low W (Low Tide) M = Meters (approx height of the expected tide) ℹ️ Any information on booking boat trips please contact us on the details below: https://lnkd.in/dzWpgTva 📞 Call us on: 07590637233 📧 Email: [email protected] #leighonsea #boattrips #thamesboattrips #brownesthamesestuaryboatandfishingtrips #leighonseaboattrips #essex #boatcharter #southendonsea #southendpier #mulberryharbour #ssrichardmontgomery #kent #thamesestuary #shippingchannel #tidetimes #tidetable #starfish #mitchell31 #tidetimes #tidesatsouthendonsea #brownesthamesestuaryboattrips #boattrip #summer2024 #summeronitsway #summerboattrips #tidetable #tidesatsouthendonsea #tidetimes #september #septembertidetables #septembertides

🏊 Today the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Welsh Government have opened a public consultation on the proposed changes to bathing water rules. The new plan outlined would remove the current fixed bathing water season dates (currently May-Sept) as cold water swimming in the winter months continues to rise in popularity, other recreational activities (such as paddle boarding and surfing) will be recognised under the definition of ‘bathers’, and the water quality testing may take place at multiple locations per bathing site. Read our response from Mark Lloyd 👇 ✊ Respond to the consultation online and have your say on the future of recreational freshwater sites before midnight on December 23rd: https://lnkd.in/e8dk8DE4 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eZWhHrUS #bathingwater #bathingwaterstatus #defra #rivers #riverhealth #waterquality #togetherforrivers #river #environment #openwaterswimming #wildswimming #riverswimming #wildswim #nature #coldwaterswimming

🌊As surfing rides a wave of global popularity, its very foundations are under threat from the escalating impacts of climate change. Rising sea levels, more frequent storm surges, and coastal erosion are jeopardizing the intricate ocean floor features that create perfect waves, threatening both the sport and the economies it supports. Discover how a partner to Race to Resilience partner initiative ORRAA, Save The Waves, is pioneering an innovative insurance model in El Salvador, aimed at protecting these precious surf ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
