Ocean Activists, you are the heart of our work. You fuel our campaigns. Stand up against profiteering polluters. Paddle out. Protest. Shout. And win. ✊👏 We've made some great progress this year. Together with your vital support we: ☑️ Held the biggest paddle-out protest and showed polluters and politicians what #PeoplePower really means ☑️ Made sewage pollution a key issue in the general election, toured and held hustings in every corner of the UK to demand cleaner policies ☑️ Worked with communities across the UK and helped 27 new bathing sites to be designated, many of which are inland ☑️ Held a seat at the table with policymakers and water company bosses to demand an end to sewage pollution ☑️ Made progress on Bathing Water Regulations demanding better protection for the places where we love to swim, paddle and surf ☑️ Continued to challenge water companies to be more transparent and cut the crap ☑️ Marched for Nature and Clean Water in the streets of London ☑️ Empowered communities across the UK to test the water quality in their local area And it's not over yet. We're here to campaign for our rivers, lakes and seas. To push those in power to make the right decisions for their future. To put people and planet before profits. We're demanding the government #BanTheBailouts so that water companies can't continue to pollute, pay dividends and bonuses while racking up debt, and expect us to pay for it. And next year, we'll continue to stand together and fight for a thriving ocean, thriving people. All donations up to £55,000 have been match-funded to raise £110,00! You can still donate by 12pm today: https://lnkd.in/eQCg9cZp Every little helps fuel our work. THANK YOU! 🙌🌊 #ChristmasChallenge #EndSewagePollution #EndPlasticPollution

About us
Surfers Against Sewage is a national marine conservation and campaigning charity that inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect the ocean and our blue spaces. Home to the Million Mile Clean, Plastic Free Communities, Plastic Free Schools and the Safer Seas & Rivers Service. Our Campaigns Water Quality - Sewage and agricultural pollution still plague the rivers and ocean. We are calling for an end to sewage pollution to guarantee safe seas, all year round. Our ambition is to end sewage discharges into UK bathing waters by 2030. Ocean & Climate - To reverse the ocean and climate crisis, we need urgent and drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions as well as the rapid embracing of nature-based solutions to limit carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Our ambition is for the UK to be net-zero by 2030. Ocean Recovery - The UK’s seas host some of the most biodiverse life in the world. However, due to the increasing pressure from human activities, marine biodiversity has decreased dramatically. Our ambition is for 30% of the ocean and all UK Marine Protected Areas to be highly protected by 2030. Plastic Pollution - To solve the plastic pollution crisis, we need to reduce the production and consumption of non-essential single-use, throwaway and polluting plastic, and build a circular economy that ensures plastics are designed to be reused and repaired. Our ambition is to end single-use plastic pollution on UK beaches by 2030.

The BBC have uncovered more shocking #DirtyMoney abuses by the water industry. Watch Panorama tonight for the full expose 👀 These dirty tricks are exactly why we need the government to act to remove profit from pollution from the statute book. Right now, they are trying to pass the Water (Special Measures) Bill. This flawed Bill needs urgent amendment - which is where you come in... Sign our #BanTheBailouts petition today, and make sure government feels the weight of public pressure and amends the Bill, before it's too late - https://lnkd.in/eYS68tVA #EndSewagePollution

Jess experienced a long bout of intense vomiting from gastroenteritis after a swim at Penarth Beach. As a professional cellist, Jess had to pull out of an upcoming performance and was out of work for 3 days. "I was bitterly disappointed. Even worse, I passed the bug onto my son who has Crohn’s. I am (literally) sickened by the grotesque defilement of our waters in the name of profit." We've received hundreds of reports just like this through our Safer Seas & Rivers Service app. Every day, we risk getting ill from swimming, paddling and surfing in polluted waters. 🤒🤮 Water companies put profits before our health. If you stand against their filthy practices, please help fuel our campaigns to end sewage pollution - spread the word and DONATE TODAY TO DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT ➡️ https://lnkd.in/enCut6bG #ChristmasChallenge #EndSewagePollution

Surfers Against Sewage reposted this
📢The final round of negotiations to establish a global treaty to tackle plastic waste pollution has finished without an agreement in place. Due to a handful of major oil producing nations blocking proposals, we are going to have to wait at least another year before a treaty can be put in place.😠 🛢️Whilst big polluters will surely look to derail these talks again and again we must make sure our government stands firm as part of the high ambition coalition working for plastic reduction targets. ✊Our resolve must not be dimmed.✊ To ensure that our government continue to take plastics reduction seriously at home and on the global stage, we need to take the plastics big oil is filling our ocean with, and use it to drown our Government in evidence, so they can not ignore plastic pollution. To help us build a mountain of evidence join a million mile clean and undertake a brand audit so we have all the evidence we need to take the fight to polluters. #endplasticpollution #plasticpollution #plasticfreeocean #plasticwaste #plasticfreeUK #plasticocean #plasticfreecommunities #oceanplastic #choosetoreuse #oceanactivists #millionmileclean

⁉️ Yes, you heard that right. EVERY single water company in England and Wales is under criminal investigation—for ILLEGAL sewage spills. These corporations have turned our rivers, seas, and wildlife into dumping grounds, putting profit over the planet. 📢 But together, WE can hold them accountable! Our community is powerful, and with a WAVE of action, we can show we’re NOT backing down. 🌊✊ 💪 Donate to power our appeal and help us take this fight to the next level. And the best part? Every pound you give this week will be DOUBLED. ➡️ Make your impact today: https://lnkd.in/gHmj3QRs #OceanActivists #EndSewagePollution #ChristmasChallenge

🚨Raw sewage spills have pushed levels of harmful bacteria in Belfast Lough beyond legal limits.🚨 With low monitoring levels and historic underinvestment, the sewage network in Northern Ireland is unable to cope with demands. The situation is perfectly summed up by SAS member Helen Armstrong - "You can see the visible brown trails whenever there has been a discharge," she said. 💩"We shouldn’t be swimming in shit."💩 Read the full investigation from BBC Spotlight in Northern Ireland here - https://lnkd.in/e2iC8k8J
