🚨 It's no surprise, but finally the Office of Environmental Protection (OEP) have concluded that the government and regulators have broken the law by being too lenient on water companies that 'spill' sewage. 🚨 📢 The OEP said sewage releases should only be allowed in exceptional circumstances, such as during unusually heavy rainfall, but that "this has not always been the case". 📢 It's time for the government to live up to its promises and start holding water companies to account, and even more important that we keep up the pressure. You can help by signing our petition to ban water company bailouts - https://lnkd.in/efsmwMPw
Spills should be for surfers, not sewage. It's time to clean up our act and protect our waters. Let’s keep the pressure on! Signing now. #CleanWaters #ColdWaterGuard
There are no 'spills', only illegal dumping or legal release into the CSO's at times of extremely high precipitation.
Fines are ineffectual - whatever conditions are imposed either the customer or the environment ends up paying… Instead water company directors should be barred from office if their company is found guilty of illegal activity. This would change boardroom behaviour overnight…

5dWhy do we tolerate this sort of behaviour by our utility companies and why does our Government not move faster to put a stop to it. Fines are symbolic but not the answer. We all have to live in this place and need to stop profit making companies pouring excrement into it. We need to do it very soon.
