Why the Shopify Channel App FAIL for Google Ads Conversion Tracking – And Why Server-Side Tracking Is the Future I recently worked with an eCommerce client WHO was using the Shopify channel app for GOOGLE ADS Conversion Tracking. However, the client needed a more advanced solution to improve tracking accuracy and leverage first-party data. The request? A server-side tracking setup through Stape.io. ↳ After the switch to Google Ads server-side tracking via Google Tag Manager (GTM). ↳ We observed a significant difference: ● Shopify channel app: 1 conversion reported ● Server-side tracking via GTM: 3 conversions reported → The solution: We implemented Google Ads server-side tracking with a custom domain via Stape.io and configured everything through Google Tag Manager (GTM) for browser and server-side event tracking. This ensured more accurate tracking, better data handling, and reliable insights for campaign optimization. → The Results: 🔹 Improved accuracy by reducing data loss from browser restrictions and ad blockers 🔹 Better attribution for smarter campaign optimization 🔹 First-party data compliance to future-proof your tracking #GoogleAds #GoogleAdsConversionTracking #Shopify #ServerSideTracking #GA4 #GoogleAnalytics #GTM #ServerSideTagging #WebAnalytics #Analytics #DigitalMarketing #GoogleTagManager #ConversionTracking

Monday Quick Tip: Cracking the GWP Campaign Code Have you ever found yourself orchestrating a GWP (Gift With Purchase) campaign on Shopify? If so, then you've probably tasted the bitter sting of confusion when it comes to understanding when and how to apply the product codes. Let me share a tale from my own experience. I used to believe that applying the code should be the first step. That is, until I learned the hard way - it isn't as intuitive as it seems unless you have a 3rd party app doing the heavy lifting. The daunting truth? Your customers probably don't know this either. So why not spell it out for them? Here's a simple strategy for you: don't make your customers figure it out! Feed them the information in bite-sized, digestible chunks. A simple prompt like, "To activate the code, add the item to your cart first" can save time, prevent frustration, and enhance their shopping experience. Clear communication isn't just a courtesy, it's good business. Start the week off right by refining how you convey critical information to your customers. #email #emailmarketing #emailtips #emailstrategy #ecommerce #ecommercetips #ecommercemarketing #ecommercestrategy #marketing #klaviyo #shopify #yotpo #sendlane #omnisend #codes #coupons #gwp

It is a frustrating quirk of Shopify integration with Google Ads, that sometimes the Google Ads conversion tracking disappears from your web store. I haven’t been able to pin down why this occurs, but I have seen this happen to many Shopify store owners, some that had been running ads for only a week, others who had been running ads for years without problem. For whatever reason, once Shopify loses your conversion tracking it is very hard to get it back using the Google Ads Channel app. The way to fix this problem is to add the conversion tracking manually. Shopify publish a tutorial for how to do it here: https://buff.ly/3D3U5Am It tells you not to duplicate conversion tracking for your store if you use Google Channel, but if your conversion tracking suddenly stopped working it is fine to duplicate it. Some important things to note: Your conversion tracking code will require a unique identifier for your Google Ads account. To get it, you need to log into Google Ads and go to Conversions. When you click on your purchase conversion it will have your Tag set-up information. You need to have your Google Ads gtag code on all pages, including the post-sale receipt page. This means you need to put your gtag in both the theme.liquid file and in the Settings > Checkout Additional scripts section. The gtag has to go above the Google Ads purchase conversion code. The purchase conversion code will only go on the checkout receipt page (Checkout Additional scripts). To create it, you will need to copy the example script from the Shopify help link above, but replace the send_to identifier with the identifier provided by your Google Ads conversion in the Tag set-up information. Remember, this code must go below your gtag piece of code or it won’t work! #ecommerce #googleads #googleadstips #ppc

Case Study: Shopify App VS Google Tag Manager (GTM) for Google Ads Conversion Tracking Last month, I worked with a UK client to set up Google Ads conversion tracking via GTM. The client had been relying on the Shopify app for tracking but sought a more precise and reliable solution to capture conversion data accurately. ● Client’s Observations After One Month When comparing the data between the Shopify channel app and the GTM-based solution after a month of implementation, the results were eye-opening: → Google Ads Conversions via GTM: 125 conversions recorded → Shopify Channel App: 99 conversions recorded This 26% discrepancy exposed the limitations of the Shopify app, which missed capturing critical conversion events, and highlighted the accuracy and reliability that GTM provides. ------------------------------------------------ ♻️ Like or Repost to spread the word 🎯 Follow me, Sobuj Mondal, for the more Web Analytics insight 💌 Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dc55x7hk 📩 Need help?
