🇬🇧 UK Manufacturing Round-Up: Monday, November 18, 2024 🇬🇧 As the new week begins, here’s a snapshot of the latest trends and developments shaping UK manufacturing today: 📊 Positive Momentum in Manufacturing Output: The UK’s manufacturing sector saw a 0.2% increase in output last month, driven by growth in aerospace, automotive, and pharmaceutical production. Advanced manufacturing continues to lead the way, with innovation and exports boosting performance. 🌍 Sustainability Gains: More manufacturers are adopting green energy solutions, with renewable energy usage in manufacturing operations reaching 45% in 2024. The £2 billion net-zero fund announced last week is expected to accelerate investments in clean energy and sustainable practices. 🔧 Skilled Workforce Focus: While the sector remains resilient, the skills gap persists. Apprenticeship programs and STEM initiatives are being scaled to address shortages, particularly in high-growth areas like electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and AI-integrated production lines. 📦 Export Challenges & Opportunities: Exports of UK-manufactured goods are up 12% year-on-year, with high demand for precision engineering products in Europe and Asia. However, Brexit-related compliance and trade barriers continue to challenge smaller exporters. ⚡ Energy Costs Still a Concern: Rising energy prices remain a major issue for manufacturers, particularly in energy-intensive sectors. Industry leaders are urging the government for further relief measures to help stabilize costs over the winter months. Looking Ahead: UK manufacturing is poised to remain a key driver of economic resilience and innovation. Sustainability, digital transformation, and addressing workforce challenges will be critical priorities in the weeks to come. What’s your outlook for UK manufacturing this week? Let’s discuss in the comments! #UKManufacturing #Innovation #Sustainability #NetZero #STEM #ExportStrength #EconomicUpdate

Every day, we rely on technology—from coffee machines to smartphones—without recognising the innovation that powers them. 💡 Behind the scenes, UK manufacturing is a driving force turning ideas into reality. Historically, the UK has led the world with breakthroughs like the first programmable computer, through to the iconic Mini Cooper and renewable energy technologies, setting global standards. However, today’s global competition and economic shifts are putting this legacy at risk. UK manufacturing needs revitalisation to continue as a powerhouse of design, science, and technology. UK manufacturing thrives on ingenuity and progress, calling on the next generation to build, innovate, and shape the future. It’s not just about making things; it’s about making things better. A robust manufacturing sector benefits everyone, from those businesses providing accounting services, through to logistics and warehousing to legal services and finance. The industries are entwined across the economy. So, we need to rally behind Andrea Wilson's campaign for a dedicated champion in government—a leader who can advocate for the nearly 3 million workers and the £220 billion direct contribution to our economy. And as a result, the nation as a whole!!! This champion must unite strategy, education, skills, investment, and legislation to drive meaningful change. How can you help? If you agree with this, please email your trade association, membership or networking group, and YOUR LOCAL MP, and request the appointment of a dedicated, experienced, and passionate professional to be our advocate within the halls of power. It’s time to ensure UK Manufacturing remains at the forefront of global innovation. #ukmanufacturing #SupportUkMfg Christopher Greenough Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng John Caudwell James Watt Jonathan Reynolds MP Peter Kyle

While there was not a lot announced about food & beverage in last night’s Federal #Budget, I liked the focus on #AustralianManufacturing. If you’re after an overview of what was in it for our industry, including the sectors and companies to benefit from the #FutureMadeinAustralia plan, see this blog. Link in original post. #IntelligentIdentification #Traceability #IndustrialAutomation #Manufacturing #Budget2024
Last night’s 2024-25 Federal #Budget emphasised a revival in local #manufacturing as a key pillar of economic recovery. The “Future Made in Australia” plan focuses significantly on supporting Australian industry and innovation – think battery manufacturing, solar energy, #greenhydrogen production and critical minerals essential for the transition to #netzero emissions. Initiatives to enhance women’s industry participation and apprenticeships in clean energy and advanced manufacturing, highlight a holistic approach towards industry growth and sustainability, while deepening ties with ASEAN and the Australia-India Business Exchange, could open up new opportunities for exports and partnerships. See what other opportunities the Budget offers in our wrap-up for #manufacturers. https://lnkd.in/dD7xM2gC #IntelligentIdentification #Traceability #IndustrialAutomation #Manufacturing #AustralianManufacturing #Budget2024 #FutureMadeinAustralia
