The UK has fallen out of the top 10 manufacturing nations, dropping to 12th place for the first time since 2012. 🇬🇧 This decline represents a significant loss for our economy and workforce. Experts point to the lack of a long-term industrial strategy as a key factor. However, opportunities exist in the energy transition and digital transformation. We need a comprehensive industrial strategy, investments, and upskilling initiatives to regain our position as a manufacturing superpower. #UKManufacturing #IndustrialStrategy #Innovation #EnergyTransition #DigitalTransformation Read more here 👇 : https://lnkd.in/dUvYJ-WR Follow for more!

With the traditional summer shutdowns and factories prepping to switch to new models, August was always going to be a quieter month for output. The sector remains optimistic about a return to growth, however, with record levels of investment announced last year. Realising those investments and securing more depends on the UK industry maintaining its competitiveness so we look forward both to the Chancellor’s Autumn budget and the government’s proposed Industrial Strategy as critical opportunities to demonstrate that it backs auto. Labour’s Automotive Sector Plan, launched at their Party Conference a year ago, should be the blueprint with its proposals for cheaper, green energy, skills investment and the cultivation of healthy markets here and abroad. These are the measures that would enable the industry to drive economic growth in every part of the country. https://lnkd.in/e7YM4eSB

🏭 Manufacturing is the engine of the UK economy. It drives innovation, job creation, decarbonisation, and punches well above its weight on productivity, wages and exports. Repeatedly, it has proved its resilience and adaptability, most recently amid the global pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the Red Sea disruptions. But, if manufacturers are to continue leading the way, whether that be on the road to Net Zero; building the workforces and AI-led factories of the future; or unlocking innovation through investment in automation and digitalisation, they’ll need firm commitments from the government. Commitments to improve infrastructure, strengthen supply chains, and create the right conditions to invest and grow. Commitments underpinned by a long-term, modern and robust industrial strategy, that lasts beyond election cycles. Commitments that show manufacturers that they’re not on their own. 🚨 That’s why, ahead of the UK General Election on July 4th, we’ve launched our 2024 Makers’ Manifesto! To highlight to the next government the areas where the industry needs support and to offer real solutions: solutions that we stand ready to work with #UKmfg and politicians alike to implement. Well, that was decisive, wasn't it. The majority have spoken. Let's hope the much needed Industrial Strategy is put together. And let's hope that the voice of the 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 sector is actually listened to in order to help create an 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 and will make a difference to both our sector and ultimately the UK economy and our GDP contribution to it. We have an opportunity now to build on our reputation of '𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞' being a worldwide sign of quality. We also have an opportunity to change the narrative that is so often heard about our sector. It is a world away from the misconceptions of gritty, grimy and unskilled. Our sector is involved in more modern, technology driven advancements than you could possibly imagine if you live outside of it.... and it needs a modern workforce to support our modern industry. Regardless of which political party you support, an Industrial Strategy will fundamentally make a difference to the 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞, it really is as simple as that. We are not a nation that doesn't 'make.' We are a nation of innovators, builders, creators, visionaries, and as the eighth largest global manufacturing country, our contribution right here, right now, is considerable and should not be watered down by any sitting government. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘀: • 2.6 million people employed • £224 billion annual output • Higher than UK average salaries • Consistent technological advancements • 8th largest manufacturing country globally #shoutaboutukmfg #ukmfg #ukmanufacturing #madeinbritain #industrialstrategy
