Essential System Tools: HyFetch – neofetch with LGBTQ+ pride flags https://lnkd.in/exR5UYfq Neofetch is a command-line interface system information script designed to capture information about your system and display it in an aesthetic and visually pleasing way. Given that neofetch’s last update was back in August 2020 and its developer has archived its GitHub repository, we’ve removed it from the Essential System Tools series. We now include HyFetch in the series. HyFetch is a fork of neofetch that displays distro ASCII art in LGBTQ+ pride colours. This script displays information about your Linux system, such as the number of installed packages, OS and kernel version, active GTK theme, CPU info, and used/available memory. It’s written in Python and published under an open source license.

#Day45 and #Day46 of Women Who Code Coding Challenge! I have been working on my Color-coded priority future and decided to go with the useState approach! However, since I am mapping through my To do items that are added to the database, I noticed that my priority useState affects every single rendered card instead of just one. It should be a simple fix, but I am having a hard time coming up with the best solution. Any feedback or insight would be greatly appreciated! #linkedinwriting #dailycoding #fullstackdeveloper #womenwhocode

Seeking Clarification on My GirlScript Summer of Code Selection Status Edit: Mr Sanjay Viswanathan please clarify this. I have been waiting for a week. Dear GirlScript Summer of Code Team, I am writing to seek clarification regarding my selection status for the GirlScript Summer of Code program. Unfortunately, I have not received an official selection email confirming my participation in the program. However, I did receive another email addressing me as a contributor and instructing me to start contributing. To provide context, I have attached a screenshot of the email I received. The content suggests that I am expected to begin contributions, which leads me to believe that there might have been an oversight or miscommunication regarding my official selection status. Could you kindly confirm whether I have been selected as a contributor for the GirlScript Summer of Code? If so, could you please resend the official selection email? I am eager to start contributing and want to ensure I follow the correct procedures as outlined by the program. I have already emailed the team but have not received a response, so I am reaching out here on LinkedIn in hopes of resolving this matter promptly. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your prompt response. Best regards, Md Sahil [email protected] #gssoc #opensource #gwoc #contribution #girlscript #summer #code

There's a DEI Crisis in STEM. As a consultant who works primarily with tech clients, I’m deeply invested in the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Recently, the closures of key organizations like Girls in Tech, Women Who Code, and Code Nation have highlighted a silent crisis that we cannot ignore. These organizations were vital in providing support, mentorship, and resources to women and minorities in STEM. Their absence leaves a void that underscores the persistent challenges we face in achieving true diversity and inclusion. In my latest article, I delve into: • The systemic issues contributing to the shutdowns • The cultural and financial barriers women in STEM encounter • The broader implications of a lack of diversity in our industry I also discuss actionable steps we can take to support existing DEI initiatives and create a more inclusive environment. It’s time for us to take a stand and ensure that the tech field benefits from the diverse perspectives and talents of everyone. Let’s work together to make a difference. 🌍✨ Read the full article here: Why We Lost Girls in Tech, Women Who Code, and Code Nation: The Silent DEI Crisis in STEM #DEI #WomenInSTEM #TechDiversity #Inclusion #STEM #Innovation #DiversityMatters #WomenWhoCode #GirlsInTech #CodeNation

Recent debates around the cultural practice of code-switching, or using professional voice, are ongoing. It’s important to understand that those who code-switch do so to avoid microaggressions. Here is a personal story from CRN’s Cass R. Cooper, MHR, about how microaggressions and microinvalidations start and the impact they can have. #microaggressions #EquityAndInclusion #InclusiveLeadership

So excited to share a video I made with The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) on exploring gender differences in Python Coding style! This study is from my The Leverhulme Trust Fellowship on how gender affects the development of technology! 🔐 You can read the full (Open Access) paper here: https://lnkd.in/everKgyu In this project I examine gender differences in Python programming on GitHub, challenging common assumptions about the underrepresentation of women in open-source software. Often attributed to perceived differences in technical ability, women's participation in open-source coding communities is frequently questioned. In contrast, my study approaches Python code as a form of communication, analyzing 1,728 open-source projects to investigate whether gender plays a role in coding quality and style. The results reveal notable gender differences in how Python files are structured, yet no differences in overall code quality. This study ultimately concludes that while there are gendered variations in Python programming style, these differences do not affect the quality of the code itself, refuting the notion that technical ability differs along gender lines!
