How important is it to identify what is driving your business forward? I mean, does it matter what first started you out on your journey? Does it matter if you were following your dreams, simply being pragmatic, or maybe even, following someone else's? As long as you're committed, that is, surely you can still be successful, right? In my view, the answer to that would have to be, well maybe 🤔, but could you ever truly be fulfilled? And could you really give your everything to simply fill a gap in the market, or follow a vision created by another? When I was interviewed for the graduate entry programme of the Greater Manchester Police, I was asked how ambitious I was, so I simply answered truthfully, 'I'm as ambitious as far as fulfillment goes, for that is far more important in my book than 'success at any cost'! And now, as I see Succeed From The Start fulfilling my dreams, I know it's because at the very heart of the business, are the people who make up the membership. It is they who are most important to me; their success that will cause me to celebrate, and I will do everything within my power to make it happen! #success #businessgrowth #community #collaboration #succeedfromthestart

Thank you to i-Tech for Schools for a wonderful opportunity to present #HowToBeATopNotchBoss at the #OrlandoLearningSummit this past weekend. It was a pleasure meeting crews from all around #Florida. As it is every year, it was a joy to attend! Also, a big #shoutout to Steve Whitaker, Ph.D., Head of The First Academy for an inspiring #keynote on the importance of relationships. Evelyn McCulloch Michael Rinyu Brian Cox Daniel Brennick #OLS IndySchool Consultancy A few #takeaways from my presentation: 👉 First and foremost, I want to acknowledge my #inspiration for much of the presentation. A huge #thankyou to Will Guidara, author of #UnreasonableHospitality, and Kim Scott, author of #RadicalCandor for writing such great source material! Genuises! 👉 For your business to come first, you have to #putyourpeoplefirst. If your staff is not invested, you're going nowhere fast. 👉 As Guidara states, "One size fits one." How have you developed a relationship with each individual who reports to you? Have you had the opportunity to recognize this person with "unreasonable hospitality"? You MUST be intentional about building relationships. Put thought into it, don't just wing it. Allow for creativity and innovation within the group, but don't just give it lip service; if there are parameters, let them know then support them in every way you can. 👉 To build on this, we turn to Scott, who says we must care personally and challenge directly. Begin by turning the microscope on yourself. Let your staff know your goals for the team, encourage feedback for yourself first, and begin building those 1:1 relationships. 👉 Remember, to be clear is to be kind. Once there is #trust, it is the responsibility of the boss to understand that, while perhaps difficult, you are not growing your team or the individuals within it if you allow below-par performance to continue. It needs to be addressed as soon as possible. 👉 Always look for the "unscripted" moments from which you can learn more. Make sure you walk around and have brief 3-5 minute conversations regularly with the people you run into, or as Scott suggests, walk a possible candidate to the car. What did you learn? 👉 Take the time to say thank you. Written thank yous rarely happen anymore; be the person who brings it back. It is truly appreciated by staff to know you will take the time to acknowledge them by sitting down to think about them and their accomplishment and write notes. 👉 Finally, treat your staff like adults.
