With G20 countries accounting for roughly 80 per cent of the world's GDP and global greenhouse gas emissions, and half of the world's exclusive economic zones, putting oceans on the G20 agenda bears immense importance. Progress in this realm not only benefits these nations but also yields positive outcomes for our blue planet. The Brazil presidency launched its Oceans (O)20 agenda during an inception meeting in Rio De Janeiro last month, it will be great for South Africa to build on this momentum during its presidency as part of a 'global south' legacy. #G20 #Oceans #GlobalCommunity #Sustainability #BlueEconomy

Several key factors make Europe the global forerunner in #sustainability, and its approach has become a model that countries like China and the U.S. are adopting: 👉Strong Regulatory Framework: Europe’s stringent environmental regulations, such as the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), set high standards for industries, driving innovation in #cleanenergy, pollution control, and #wastemanagement. These regulations are not only mandatory within Europe but also influence global supply chains and international business practices, as companies exporting to Europe must comply with its standards. The latest Ecological Transformation Barometer reveals significant insights into global and Indonesian perspectives on climate change: ⛈️ Globally, 73% attribute climate disruption to human activities. In Indonesia, this belief is even stronger, with 81% recognizing human-caused climate change. Only 10% of Indonesians view it as a natural phenomenon, and a mere 1% are uncertain. 😀 Despite a slight 4% decrease in optimism since the previous survey, 90% of Indonesians remain hopeful about their ability to mitigate climate disruption and pollution. This optimism far exceeds the global average of 55%. 🌎 7 in 10 Indonesians believe their nation's environmental and sustainability efforts align with the ecological risks they face. Moreover, 79% of Indonesians – significantly above the world average – are convinced that the cost of inaction outweighs that of ecological action. 🪴 Although there's been a 7-point drop in 18 months, the sentiment across all demographics in Indonesia is that proactive measures are crucial. The consensus is clear: the price of inaction on ecological transformation will be higher than taking action.
