Just attended SecureWorld Chicago, 6 June 2024, and SecureWorld Eastern, 12 June 2024. I learned (or was exposed to) lots of good information. I strongly encourage anyone to attend conferences when feasible. It's a good opportunity to meet and listen to experts in various areas of your field. Networking with clients is crucial, and conferences offer a chance to connect with a wider range of individuals, including experts who can provide valuable advice and insights. Conferences are not just about networking; they also provide a platform to learn new approaches and ideas. With a lineup of industry speakers and workshops, you can enhance your knowledge and stay updated on industry trends, especially in areas like cybersecurity. Staying abreast of the latest trends in the cybersecurity industry is essential yet challenging. Conferences help you identify trends worth following and technologies worth implementing, aiding in better decision-making for your organization. Moreover, on a basely practical note, conferences often offer Professional Development Units (PDUs) for attendance, a vital consideration for industry professionals with certifications as well as many academics. NETWORKING is garbage! Only if you don’t have a purpose for doing it as well as having a plan. I love to network, especially at conferences, whether it’s for #cybersecurity or personal reasons. Having a plan means knowing what you want to get out of each event. Do your research on who’s attending. Have tools to stay organized and keep track of your connections. You can collect all the contacts you want, but if you’re not making an effort to follow up and further the relationship, you’re only doing yourself a disservice. Lastly be yourself, conferences can be nerve wracking. I get it. I felt that way about them. But you have to get out of your comfort zone and expand. Have you ever experienced that feeling when all your hard work finally pays off? Just wrapped up an incredible few days at InfoSeCon 2024 in Raleigh, NC—and wow, what a rewarding experience! I went into InfoSeCon ready to learn, meet new people, and get inspired by some of the best minds in cybersecurity. Not only did I walk away with so much new knowledge, but I also got the chance to hear something that truly made this experience unforgettable: The networking I had been doing for the last three months had worked, and people at the event knew my name and spoke highly of me. Putting in the effort to connect with others ahead of time truly paid off, and it’s amazing to see how building my brand and reputation has made a difference.
