NETWORKING is garbage! Only if you don’t have a purpose for doing it as well as having a plan. I love to network, especially at conferences, whether it’s for #cybersecurity or personal reasons. Having a plan means knowing what you want to get out of each event. Do your research on who’s attending. Have tools to stay organized and keep track of your connections. You can collect all the contacts you want, but if you’re not making an effort to follow up and further the relationship, you’re only doing yourself a disservice. Lastly be yourself, conferences can be nerve wracking. I get it. I felt that way about them. But you have to get out of your comfort zone and expand. Showing your true personality is going to attract people to you naturally. Believe in your abilities and have a good time. Use my code “Dominic15” for a discount on your GovTechCon ticket. GovTechCon will be in Virginia at the Hyatt Regency from December 18-20th. (Gotta work on my acting skills SMH 🤦🏽♂️😂)

⭐Cyber Night Takeaway ⭐ If you're a first-timer, here are a few things you should know before deciding weather or not to attend our event: ✨ The event is free to attend, and includes complimentary drinks and food ✨ Our sponsor, "The Bridge IT," may be a recruitment firm, but our events are not a platform for selling recruitment services. We actively discourage any selling or pitches during our events unless in the very rare circumstance that we state otherwise in the initial invitations based on the theme of the event. Ultimatley, you know who I am and what I do so why try sell anything ✨ Feeling shy about attending? Don't worry, I can be extreamly introverted sometimes and I know socialising with new people can feel daunting (yes this is coming from someone who runs a networking event!) I have got you covered! You're welcome to bring a +1 (A partner, a collegue or even a furry friend if the venue allows it 🐶). We want everyone to feel comfortable and included at our events, so feel free to let me know. ✨ Are you a service provider wondering why you should attend an event where other firms show off their knowledge? Our participation culture is our answer to that. We encourage you to get involved in the discussions and even share your own ideas with our panelists during the networking sessions. So mark your calendars for March 14th and drop me a messege if you are interested in attaneding Cyber Night Takeaway! #cybersecurity #CyberNightTakeaway

Have you ever experienced that feeling when all your hard work finally pays off? Just wrapped up an incredible few days at InfoSeCon 2024 in Raleigh, NC—and wow, what a rewarding experience! I went into InfoSeCon ready to learn, meet new people, and get inspired by some of the best minds in cybersecurity. Not only did I walk away with so much new knowledge, but I also got the chance to hear something that truly made this experience unforgettable: The networking I had been doing for the last three months had worked, and people at the event knew my name and spoke highly of me. Putting in the effort to connect with others ahead of time truly paid off, and it’s amazing to see how building my brand and reputation has made a difference. Here are my top takeaways from InfoSeCon 2024: 1. Networking Matters: Building relationships before an event makes a world of difference when you arrive. 2. Continuous Learning: Cybersecurity is constantly evolving—keeping up with new insights is essential. 3. Personal Branding: Being intentional about my personal brand opened doors I hadn’t anticipated. 4. Community Support: Meeting so many people in the cybersecurity field who genuinely want to help each other was incredibly inspiring. 5. Have Fun with It: At the end of the day, it’s important to enjoy the journey and celebrate small wins along the way! I’m so grateful for this experience and for the chance to build my network in ways that feel authentic and rewarding. Have you been to a conference or event that left a lasting impact? I’d love to hear your takeaways or advice on making the most out of these experiences! #InfoSeCon #CyberSecurity #Networking #PersonalBranding #ContinuousLearning #CareerGrowth #LinkedInCommunity

🤝MY TIPS FOR ATTENDING YOUR FIRST INDUSTRY EVENT🚶 A couple of months ago I attended my first event in the cyber security industry, something I would have been quite nervous to do in the past. It turned out to be a great experience with nothing bad coming from it at all, these are some tips I would offer to anyone looking to attend a similar event for the first time. 1. Just attend it! These things can be quite daunting to do for the first time but you won’t regret it. Just by attending you get a feel for what is going on in your industry and get to speak and/or listen to some really interesting people. 🤝🚶 2. Be prepared, before attending my first event I made sure I was up to date with the things I wanted to talk about (for me it was GRC in cyber in particular) this makes it so much easier to talk to people because you can be confident that what you’re talking about is relevant. This leads to strong conversations that people remember. 🧐💻 3. Know your reasons for attending, Linking to the previous point of being prepared knowing your reasons for attending these events is key. It was one of the main ways I introduced myself to people by saying “I’m a graduate and I’m hear to talk, make connections and explore opportunities” If you are a graduate or student as I was at my first event then people tend to really appreciate this. The most common response I got to that was “wow it’s great to see a grad here” it shows that you’re passionate and going beyond what most people might do. 💭🤔 4. Some people might not want to talk, although a lot of these events are really welcoming there are always some people there that might not want to talk and that’s fine! For example, it can change depending on the type of show, I attended an expo as my first event meaning that companies are mainly there to sell. Therefore, some of the initial responses I got inferred people weren’t interested in talking to me as they just wanted to make sales. That is totally fair enough and at least you tried, on to the next stand and try again. ✋⤵️ 5. Do your research, most events will post a list of exhibitors on their website. It can be be really helpful to go through the list and identify the companies and organisations that you want to speak to, it also means that you can approach them knowing what they do and people always like that. I also found that going in with that list of people I wanted to speak to took away some nerves because I knew exactly what I was there to do. 💻📚 These are just some tips from my personal experience, I really enjoyed attending my first event and I hope may more people can put themselves out there and do the same thing. *Image made using AI*

Attending Chapter Meetings can be a powerful way to build your network and grow professionally. To truly maximize these opportunities, it's all about being proactive and engaged. Here are four essential tips to help you make meaningful connections and get the most out of every chapter meeting you attend: ➡️ Arrive Early: Getting to the meeting early gives you a chance to chat with other early birds in a more relaxed setting before the formal proceedings begin. ➡️ Engage with Speakers: Don't be shy to ask questions during the Q&A or approach speakers after their presentation. It's a great way to learn more and make valuable connections. ➡️ Participate Actively: Join in discussions, share your insights, and be an active participant. This not only helps you network but also positions you as a knowledgeable professional. ➡️ Leverage Social Media: Connect with other attendees on LinkedIn after the meeting and continue the conversation online. This helps to solidify the relationships you started in person. #DenverISSA #Cybersecurity #CyberCommunity

Just attended SecureWorld Chicago, 6 June 2024, and SecureWorld Eastern, 12 June 2024. I learned (or was exposed to) lots of good information. I strongly encourage anyone to attend conferences when feasible. It's a good opportunity to meet and listen to experts in various areas of your field. Networking with clients is crucial, and conferences offer a chance to connect with a wider range of individuals, including experts who can provide valuable advice and insights. Conferences are not just about networking; they also provide a platform to learn new approaches and ideas. With a lineup of industry speakers and workshops, you can enhance your knowledge and stay updated on industry trends, especially in areas like cybersecurity. Staying abreast of the latest trends in the cybersecurity industry is essential yet challenging. Conferences help you identify trends worth following and technologies worth implementing, aiding in better decision-making for your organization. Moreover, on a basely practical note, conferences often offer Professional Development Units (PDUs) for attendance, a vital consideration for industry professionals with certifications as well as many academics. These PDUs help fulfill professional obligations and prevent certifications from expiring, assisting learning and growth. Attending conferences is a multifaceted opportunity that goes beyond networking, offering learning, trend awareness, and professional development benefits essential for personal and organizational growth.
