I recently bought a golf cart, and aside from the fact that I've explored the city in it and had so much fun, I've learned a few more things: It's surprising how much of a barrier the metal of a car creates between us, and how it allows us to avoid connection. When I ride around in the golf cart, people smile - they can see me, and I can see them. Sometimes, if folks are walking, we even have a small conversation. It's no wonder that road rage exists; there are too many barriers between us to connect and it’s easy for us to not see others as our sisters and brothers. When driving, I miss so many details that make Nashville great. For example, there's a little cut-off from the street leading to a small hiding spot in the trees—a perfect place to be still. How have I passed it so many times without noticing? As Biden steps aside and our country's future feels uncertain, it's important to remember that we are all united in our human existence. The connection that can so easily be felt when in a small group, or even driving a golf cart down a neighborhood street, is the key to moving through our differences to a higher place. We all have our viewpoints, but if someone has a differing one, take a moment to ask why that is important to that person. Truly try to understand. You may not agree, but you can walk away with the key to better enhance your counterpoint or, better yet, with a more well-rounded viewpoint.

Are you ’exchanging places’? ‘Exchanging places’ is an initiative to help pedestrians and cyclists see the road from the perspective of a lorry driver. It’s a valuable experience to understand just what can and cannot be seen when you’re sitting in the cab of a lorry and how many mirrors and cameras drivers need to check as they go about their journey. Find out more about what it takes to deliver one of these sessions: https://lnkd.in/eK3GXbQ3

Breaking the Cycle: Overcoming Poverty, Homelessness, and Substance Abuse In our community, the challenges of poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse often intertwine, creating a complex web that can feel impossible to escape. But every individual deserves a chance at a better life, and together, we can make a difference. Hand in Hand: It’s crucial to recognize that overcoming these challenges requires more than just individual effort. It takes a supportive community willing to extend a helping hand to those in need. Understanding the Connections: Poverty can lead to homelessness, which in turn can fuel substance abuse as a coping mechanism. Breaking free from this cycle requires addressing the root causes and providing comprehensive support. Providing Stability: Access to stable housing, healthcare, and education is essential for breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness. By ensuring these basic needs are met, we can empower individuals to rebuild their lives. Building Support Systems: Recovery from substance abuse requires not only professional treatment but also strong support systems and a sense of belonging. Let’s foster communities where individuals feel supported on their journey to recovery. Creating Change: It’s time to come together as a community to break down stigma, increase access to resources, and advocate for policies that support those facing poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse. Together, we can be the catalyst for change and create a brighter future for all. Help us extend a hand to those in need and build a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. #citizensinn #BreakingTheCycle #CommunitySupport #EndStigma

The title definitely caught my attention. Summary of the article below. I was at F1, there is definitely tons of deep-pocketed attendees as well as those from every walk of life. Want a ballcap? $140. Summary of the article (not my opinion): Since the '80s, I've been entrenched in Miami's commercial real estate scene, witnessing its roller-coaster transformation. Recently, I returned to attend the Miami Grand Prix, which not only reconnected me with the city but also opened my eyes to the extreme commercialization that now permeates Miami. The Grand Prix, much like Miami itself, has become a microcosm of high-stakes capitalism. The economics of attending such an event were staggering. Parking ranged from $75 for a distant spot to $225 right near the venue, reflecting the city's broader issue of accessibility and affordability. General admission tickets, which we snagged for $125, offered minimal amenities and subpar views—literally a ground-level perspective with obstructions everywhere. The financial outlay didn't just stop at tickets; even a slice of pizza at the track cost $14, emblematic of the inflated prices that residents and visitors face daily. This scenario mirrors the broader Miami market, where the median rent for a one-bedroom apartment is now $2,750, a stark 72% above the national median, according to recent Zillow data. This inflation in living costs is pushing the city's long-standing residents, including immigrants who make up over half of Miami Dade County's population, to the fringes. Miami's identity has also evolved from its days as the epitome of beach and club culture. Now, it's also a hub for art, technology, and a burgeoning financial district—changes driven by the same forces that have turned the Grand Prix into a festival of exclusivity. Every few steps at the race, there was another "exclusive zone" — from air-conditioned lounges sponsored by hydration companies to terraces backed by cryptocurrency firms, each with entry fees in the hundreds, mirroring the gated communities and luxury developments that dot the Miami skyline. Despite these changes, the thrill of the race and the energy of the crowd provided a temporary escape. Yet, I couldn't shake the feeling that everything around me was engineered to extract maximum profit, much like the high-rise developments and luxury condos that are reshaping Miami's skyline. The city, once a playground for everyone, now caters predominantly to those at the top of the financial ladder, leaving little room for the middle class and long-time residents. In essence, the Grand Prix isn't just a race; it's a stark reminder of the new Miami—a city where the spectacle and the economy are tightly interwoven, and where the cost of participation keeps rising, much like the skyscrapers that continue to redefine its horizon. https://lnkd.in/e_nFR_NS
