There are several different pathways to enter the labor force and find meaningful work, including apprenticeships, entrepreneurship and higher education. However, nationally, 79% of jobs that pay more than $60,000 require a college degree. This is why the Tampa Bay Partnership believes it is essential to both increase educational attainment, and to re-examine hiring practices to incorporate skills, and experienced-based qualifications. #credentials #education #collegedegree #workforce #talent https://buff.ly/3IfIfbr

Thrilled to share thoughts on the "Careers Education 2022/23: Now & Next" report—a pivotal analysis of England's careers education landscape. It brilliantly outlines the progress in career readiness and efforts to bridge skills gaps, underpinned by the Gatsby Benchmarks for stellar career guidance. Key highlights include the tangible impact of employer encounters and workplace experiences, crucial for linking education to real-world career paths. Equally commendable is the focus on inclusivity, striving to close the opportunity gap for disadvantaged youths. This report is a testament to the collective drive of educators, employers, and policymakers towards a future-ready careers education system. It's a clarion call for continued innovation and investment in this essential sector. A must-read for those in education and workforce development, signaling not just our current standing but the path forward. #CareerEducation #GatsbyBenchmarks #FutureOfWork #EducationReform https://lnkd.in/eHgiidQ4

With all the talk about skills and the potential for micro-credentials, this article by Irina Anghel provides a contrasting argument about the value of higher education degrees in the workplace. It's not the first article to make this compelling case. For me, this is a reminder that the role for micro-credentials in higher education is about lifelong learning. Micro-credentials can change the way higher education institutions design and implement education, creating new opportunities for learning and teaching. Micro-credentials can provide mechanisms to increase the diversity and equity of students accessing our programs in universities through well designed and transparent pathways to assist people and their aspirations for socio-economic mobility. They can also provide mechanisms to support ongoing professional learning to meet the demands of the dynamism of the workplace. Governments can assist by providing the digital infrastructure to intercede in the education and emploment ecosystems to integrate the acknowledgement of many forms of evidence of learning, be it formal, non formal, informal. A role for governments may include the imagining of skill passports, reinforce acknowledgement of skills and capability frameworks, and support collaborations within the education and employment ecosystems to generate innovative yet practical solutions to foster the confluence of lifelong learning and work.

Thinking about going to college but don't want to spend four years (and a lot of money) on a university degree? 🤔 Career colleges in Ontario offer a great alternative! They provide shorter, focused programs that can help you get the skills you need to start a new career in just a few months or a year. ⏱️ Here are some of the benefits of attending a career college: Focus on practical skills: Career college programs are designed to teach you the specific skills you need to be successful in your chosen field. Flexible learning options: Many career colleges offer online, part-time, and evening programs, making it easy to fit your education around your busy schedule. Financial aid: There are a number of financial aid options available to help you cover the cost of your education. Before you enroll in a career college, it's important to do your research. Make sure the college is registered with the government and that the program you're interested in is right for you. You can find more information about career colleges in Ontario on the Ontario government website: [https://lnkd.in/gtnYSWj8] #CareerCollege #Ontario #Education #NewCareer

National Skills Coalition believes that every worker, in every industry, deserves good jobs that allow them to thrive economically. Equitable and affordable access to high-quality skills training and credentials are critical to that pursuit. This week my colleague, Brooke DeRenzis, has shared the work National Skills Coalition is doing to connect Short Term Pell to quality non-degree credentials as expanding Pell eligibility and short-term training programs garnish more attention from Congress. Read the full blog to learn how states are continuing to move forward on connecting quality credentials to good jobs, economic mobility and a more inclusive economy. https://lnkd.in/eqi6g-EJ This work builds on what states have been doing during the past several years to invest in high quality non-degree credentials and better measure and report on the outcomes of these programs and pathways with an eye towards equity. https://lnkd.in/eAiZB2vV Follow National Skills Coalition's MCW campaign, so you know when it's time to take action around our #highereducation policy recommendations: https://lnkd.in/eVxcqz_d

Delighted that the report that follows our 2024 Advance HE #CDF grant has now been published: Students becoming graduates: The role of industry placements at https://lnkd.in/eCWGdYBi We have examined how industry placements prepare undergraduate business-management students for ‘becoming’ effective graduates through preparing them for their future career. Our report highlights that an industry placement offers a potential site for students’ future identity-crafting for their career. We employed a single-phase approach using a qualitative "Map your Identity" tool to generate a rich, deep dataset. We propose recommendations for education policy and practice decisions for supporting students to secure an industry placement, where identity-crafting can be stimulated.
