GCSE students in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will soon receive their results, but how does the grading system work in England? GCSEs in England now use a numerical system from 9 to 1, replacing the old A* to E grading. This was introduced in 2014, with full implementation by 2020. The highest grade is 9, while 1 is the lowest with U remaining ungraded. Grade boundaries, set annually by examiners, determine the minimum marks needed for each grade. A 4 is considered a standard pass, while a 5 is a strong pass. Many sixth forms require a minimum number of 5s or 6s for further study. The shift to numerical grades was aimed at making GCSEs more challenging and transparent, with a focus on final exams rather than coursework. Additionally, it allows for clearer differentiation among high-achieving students. But did these changes achieve its goals? Results land on Thursday the 22nd of August! #GoodLuck #GCSEGrades #Education

Since GCSE exams are looming, it is time to explain my story... I struggled with my GCSE exams. Although my predicted grades were high, my results were average. I left some of my exams thinking I could have done better, and I regretted not being organised with my revision. After completing my bachelor's degree, I founded GCSE Catch Up. I incorporated my past experiences and feedback received from teachers to build this platform. The mission? To create an affordable solution that could replicate the effectiveness of private tuition without the need for 1-to-1 teaching. Something I wished I had access to when I was in year 11, six years ago. GCSE Catch Up is offering all year 11 students free exam preparation lessons by our tutors from May 1st until June 13th—a minimum of three preparation lessons per core GCSE exam. I don't want any Year 11 students to leave the exam hall with regret like I did. Do you? Offer your students our tutor-taught exam prep lessons for free - no strings attached. Reach out to us today. #gcse #exam #secondaryschool #teachers

GCSE RESULTS 2024 Congratulations to the 2024 Year 11 cohort on a fantastic set of GCSE outcomes! Affected by the COVID lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, and amid a national backdrop of a return to tougher grade boundaries and a drop in top grades, the students have demonstrated resilience and effort achieving brilliantly, with a host of exceptional performances. With levels of anxiety and uncertainty at their height, whatever the level of success, we are proud of them all and excited for the next stage in their education. - 69.5% of entries were graded 9-7 and 99.2% graded 9-4. - 79.7% of students received 5 or more 9-7 grades with 41 students receiving 100% 9-7 grades. -Exceptional performances from two students who achieved eleven grade 9s, four with ten grade 9s and a further six achieved nine grade 9s. Headmaster, Mark Sturgeon, commented ‘Following on from the outstanding A Level results last week these outcomes at GCSE are a testament to the incredible resilience and motivation of this group of students. With the GCSE examinations under so much scrutiny, the cohort have shown that they excel in their understanding and learning of subjects they enjoy and these results provide opportunities for their future. With such a rich foundation for further study, we congratulate them and their families, alongside our incredible staff who have supported the students throughout the two years of GCSE study.’ #Education #Achievements #Resilience

Yet more record breaking results, this time from our fantastic GCSE students! This year’s cohort of 146 Year 11s sat 1,497 GCSE exams across 21 different subjects, securing excellent results: 86% grades 7-9 (equivalent to A-A*), 70% grades 8-9 (equivalent to A*) and 44% at the highest possible grade 9. Notably, RGS has 1% of the students in the UK who achieved all 9s A total of 57 students achieved a remarkable set of 11 GCSEs and almost half of all grades were the highest possible achievable - grade 9. Perhaps most impressive of all, RGS GCSE results place it in the top 1% of schools in the country for its ‘value added’ for GCSEs. Chris Quayle, RGS’s Deputy Head (Academic) who leads the school’s approach to learning and teaching, said: “Reflecting on the past year as a whole, all Year 11 students should be proud of what they have achieved as individually they have earned their success and have collectively secured yet another record-breaking year of RGS GCSE results.” Geoffrey Stanford, RGS’s Headmaster added: “Our Year 11 students are truly phenomenal. Whilst RGS is renowned for stellar academic results, being in the top one percent of schools in the UK for value added reflects the combined efforts of our students, their parents and our staff.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eZPZfZSB #WeAreRGS #RecordBreaking #GCSEResults | Independent Schools Council | The Institute of Development Professionals in Education (IDPE) | HMC (The Heads' Conference) | Schools North East

Hard Work + Dedication = Success 🎓 In December, just months before GCSE exams, we ran higher-level Maths tests to see if some foundation students could move up. One student, who had been doing foundation, scored a 6, and we decided to give him the chance to tackle higher-level Maths. We made it clear to him—if you want to succeed, you must put in the extra work to cover the content in the limited time available. And he did just that. He attended every intervention, after-school session, and even came during lunch and breaks to ask questions and work on his weaknesses. His effort paid off: he scored a grade 8 in GCSE Maths! 🎉 This was the result of relentless hard work and never giving up. It’s a powerful reminder that the grind leads to greatness. This is a key lesson many students and parents need to remember: while teachers and tutors are there to support, it’s the student’s dedication and effort that drives success. The path to achievement isn’t easy, but with hard work, the reward is always worth it. 💪📚 #HardWorkPaysOff #StudentSuccess #Education #GrowthMindset #Maths #GCSE

GCSE Exams recommence! The #GCSE exams continue from today and as the year 11s work away on their gruelling schedules, it is only a year before the current #year10 s and 2 years until the current #year9 s sit their actual #GCSE exams. Early preparation can lead to greater confidence and lesser anxiety closer towards the exams. It also can lead to some fantastic grades! I am looking to help 5 students on their journey to success in their Maths GCSE. Here is a sample of what is in store along that journey: https://lnkd.in/e59nV5Vx
