Lean six sigma fundamentals; What is lean ? What is six sigma? Lean focusses on process efficiency by reduction of wastes. Six sigma focusses on product or service quality by reduction of variations or errors. So, in lean, the objective is to reduce wastes, increase productivity and achieve continuous improvement. Lean is simple to implement especially for short term targets and requires lean tools to implement. Best reference is Toyota company. The objective of six sigma is to reduce variability sources through process optimization and achieve superior quality. The framework for use in six sigma is the DMAIC (Define,Measure, Analyze,Improve and control). Six sigma is a complex methodology; best for medium and long term endeavours. It requires statistical tools to implement. Best reference was Motorola company.

Lean Six Sigma combines the principles of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodology to improve efficiency and quality. DMAIC is a key component of the Lean Six Sigma approach, providing a structured framework for process improvement, it is used to identify, measure, analyze, improve and control existing processes to increase efficiency and quality while reducing defects.

#Lean VS #Six_Sigma Are these two expressions the same? The focus of Six Sigma and Lean in manufacturing plants is to improve production to optimum levels of quality. Despite their common goals, the approaches Six Sigma and Lean practitioners take to reach these goals can vary significantly. ✅️ Six Sigma: ✔️Six Sigma uses statistical analysis and other quantitative methods to minimize variance and flawed products to a level of 3.4 defects per million opportunities. This corresponds to six standard deviations from the mean. ✔️Six Sigma depends on data - driven decisions. ✅️ Lean manufacturing: ✔️Lean uses primarily qualitative methods to identify areas of waste along a product or process lifecycle and continuously looks for ways to improve operations. ✔️ Waste reduction is achieved by using lean toolkit after detecting the waste through value stream mapping.
