INDUSTRY NEWS: mDLs close in on practical use with standardization, tests and reader demos Mobile driver's licenses (mDLs) are becoming more useful beyond proving driving privileges, with new standards enabling remote identity verification. The ISO/IEC TS 18013-7:2024 standard now supports mDL use for online identity claims, with updates planned for future browser-based verification. Companies like DIACC members FaceTec, Inc. and MATTR are playing a key role in advancing this technology. FaceTec, Inc.'s VP Andrew Hughes shared updates on mDLs and standards, while MATTR showcased a verifier for mDLs on standard payment devices. Both companies showcased their solutions at a major international event, demonstrating the growing practical use of mDLs across various applications.
