We're always hearing about Skills Shortages. It feels like we have so many dots to join about skills. From people to employers, from education to industry. What skills do we need to know? Who can we find to learn new skills? Who will fill roles for us? Are Qualifications and skills programmes giving us what we need? Are we implementing them where we need to? Are we implementing them where we have the right people to take them on? The future changes in #SkillsEngland will start to change the way we look at skills needs, demand and supply. Everyone wants to know what skills they need now and in the future. But lots of organisations also want this to be 'fixed' by someone, somewhere. How are you handling this today? What is your strategy for skills? #Workforce #WorkforceIntelligence #FutureOfWork #SkillsBasedHiring #Inclusive #AI #ActionableInsights #IndustrialStrategy

I read an insightful article in the Metro this morning titled, “The Real Reason 11 Million People in the UK Cannot Get Work” by Kimberley Bond. From weight loss jabs to prohibitive childcare costs, Bond highlights the narrow-sighted policies that continue to perpetuate this problem and keep millions economically inactive. At Skillsminer we see this issue not as a lack of available talent but as a deeper, systemic failure about how we approach workforce readiness. From childcare vouchers, and hybrid policies to temporary benefits, none address the root cause: a lack of unified support to connect skills with purpose and potential. As a result, productivity stalls, critical roles remain unfilled, and top talent slowly drifts away. This isn’t just about filling vacancies; it’s about building a workforce where each person finds true value and purpose. Real progress lies in meeting genuine needs for skills and talent, starting with a clear understanding of the skills we have and those we need. Perhaps it’s time to rethink what productivity and prosperity truly mean.
