What I like about this simple display is that it is a nice example that shows how to execute 5S. I am not even sure it’s intentional, but what I see in this example is how to get:

At the time I need it
In the form I need it - Delivered to the point of
use
Material motion is almost exclusively non value added, but we spend a significant amount of resource energy delivering materials to the point of use (where the value is added). I don't see industry taking the lessons from advanced MP&L systems and applying it to the shop floor. Instead we see people, lots of people doing the last mike work. Water spiders are a great first step, but i can readily see devices similar to the ones Jake Hall shares here, with SICK Sensor Intelligence, and their partners.
I believe that this is an area that will be growing exponentially in the years to come, as we seek to automate the last mile.
