Good to see Lord Blunkett calling for HMT to end the top slicing of the apprenticeship levy during the second reading of the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (Transfer of Functions etc) Bill. Currently c£800m per year is not finding its way to the DfE’s Apprenticeship Programme Budget or part of the devolved nations’ block funding settlement either. That £800m would pay for: level 7 apprenticeships continuing unabated, better rates for existing apprenticeships, an annual uplift in rates to account for inflation, more starts, more substantial and impactful incentives and wider and deeper non-apprenticeship flexibilities too. #SkillsEngland https://lnkd.in/eQBtR9_A

2moI totally agree Simon, especially as the topslice was predicted to rise to £1bn in the next 2 years. The receipts from the levy have increased year on year since introduction due to pay growth, but the investment in Apprenticeships has not kept pace. There is so much that could be done with this money in the skills arena and it could do an immense amount of good if spent wisely.
