During my talks to CEO Groups, I typically ask the members if they remember who was named TIME Magazine's Person of the Year in 2006. Most don't know, while others guess. No matter who they name, they are correct because everyone who was alive got the nod that year. I then ask them if they have this distinction listed on their LinkedIn Profile under Honors & Awards, and as you might imagine, most people do not. I let them know; however, that if they check my profile, they will find it listed. Did I do it alone? No, but no one who was ever named TIME Magazine's Person of the Year did it alone either. They all had help. We're here to help and serve each other in this world which is what #peerinfluence, #peeradvantage, and #Peernovation are all about. We work together to create something larger than ourselves. In that spirit, it may be time to make an addition to the Honors & Awards section of your profile.

Anyone else looking forward to their holiday and panicking about it at the same time? My 'Things I Have To Do before I Go' list is extensive. Yes, I have already taken off the things I would like to do and drilled it down to the essentials. Remember: it's always good to check that your lists are realistic and achievable! One thing I had to do before was complete my entry for the Sandra Garlick MBE Solopreneur Awards and I did it! How? Guidance and accountability. The amazing Emma Hewitt worked with me. We agreed a timetable that she (very kindly) kept chasing me on to make sure I hit the deadlines. She recommended some additions to my initial thoughts and made really helpful and insightful suggestions. AND today, that Awards entry went in! I'm pleased, relieved and I have one less thing on that list! This is what I said to Emma as part of my very grateful 'thank you': 'Your help and guidance has been invaluable. It's a relief to have something to use/work from with future award entries without re-inventing the wheel each time. I really appreciate the time you have taken to read through and comment on my content, as well as pointing me in the right direction as to what should go where. This has saved me lots of time which I've been very short on. It's also been really lovely for me to reflect on how far my business has come and the impact it has had. It's given me the boost I needed!' Why enter Awards: - because what you do is amazing and it deserves recognition - it's a great opportunity to raise your profile - completing the entry gives you space to reflect on what you have achieved and it's easy to forget this - the Awards events are usually really good fun - they are a great way to connect with like-minded and supportive business people and we all need them in our networks If you need help, Emma Hewitt is 100% your woman! #awards #solopreneur #femalebusinessowner #todolist #femaleleader

I recently had the fun task of putting these fabulous people into teams Judging teams, that is It's not quite award season, but behind the scenes, it never stops With the help of our judging committee Mayokun - Mac Alonge, Sope Agbelusi, Demi S. and the wider BTA team we have: - recruited and onboarded new judges - look out for announcements 🎉 - refined the entry forms to make sure all of the nominees shine ✨ - rebuilt the judging system and tested it to destruction 🤯 Awards aren't everyone's cup of tea, but... At the BTAs, we do our utmost to make sure the process is fair and efficient - We offer feedback to everyone who enters who doesn't get shortlisted - All finalists are interviewed before the winners are chosen - The judging process is rigorous, but it's also fun BTAs recognise people who just get their heads down and do a good job - People who often don't like to blow their own trumpet 🎺 - People who may not even be on Linkedin 😳 - People who shun the spotlight 🙈 Nominations are open - employees, solopreneurs, small and large businesses Head to Black Talent Awards and nominate - give someone their flowers 💐 #Inclusion #BlackTalentAwards

Say ‘hi’ to Becky, officially a Future CEO in our midst. Becky won the NOTTY for Future CEO at our awards last year so we asked her to say a few words about what it meant to her to win. When we decided to put on these awards for the first time last year, we had two main goals. First, to make it as inclusive as possible - anyone in ANY industry can enter and be in with a chance of winning. Second, to ensure bias was left totally out of the equation when it comes to entering and judging. Becky did not pay for her award, nor was she involved in the judging process, Becky won her award purely on merit and doesn’t that mean so much more? (So too did all of our other winners by the way.) If you’d like to get involved in the mix, try your hand at nominating - https://thenottys.co.uk/ Nominations close this Friday the 11th so don’t put it off! #NottysAwards #Nottys2024 #NetworkingAwards #BusinessAwards

We have so many award lists reserved for people 𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 20, 30, and 40. That's cool and all, but how about we push for some new standalone recognitions from the likes of PRWeek, Forbes, Fast Company, TechCrunch, etc., dedicated to (wait for it) people 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 40, 50, 60? Let's call it the "Wisdom Winners" or "Wisdom 50 over 50", you get the idea. Major bonus points if the people selected were relative late bloomers or second actors who hit their stride well after the typical prodigies. People like Morgan Freeman, Rose Blumkin, Bernie Marcus, Ray Kroc, Henry Ford, Martha Stewart, Toni Morrison, Lucille Ball, the list goes on and on. The more resilience, the higher the ranking. I would love to delve into this type of award list, would you?

Am sure most of us have participated industry awards which seek to recognize the best among us in different categories. mostly we are asked to nominate and vote. The question is how objectives are this ranking? This ranking at the end of the day are popular competition than a merit based ranking. what are your views on this awards?
