After two years of trailing behind, #MentalHealth has once again reclaimed the top spot in disease-specific venture funding in the #US, overtaking #Oncology with an impressive 63% year-on-year #increase. In H1 2024, a substantial $1.34B was deployed to Mental Health ventures, underscoring the growing focus on this critical #disease area. Mental Health now accounts for 10% of the total venture funding value in North America and represents 13% of the #DigitalHealth venture volume within this #ecosystem. The #UnitedStates leads with 88% of these ventures, followed by #Canada at 10%. With a 13% CAGR over five years, the Mental Health ecosystem is on a robust growth trajectory. Within this space, #SleepWakeDisorders has emerged as the most common focus, attracting $523M in venture funding in the first half of the year. #Depression, while second in terms of #funding volume, led in the number of deals, securing 23 rounds and $379M in #investments. Maven’s $90 million round 👏🏾 accounted for 20% of all VC funding for women’s health in 2022. Women-focused health tech ventures still attract just 2% of health tech venture funding. And, ironically (or not), new research has found that women’s health ventures led by women are less likely to get funding than those run by men. The opioid crisis was a sad hallmark of my years working for the Baker Administration. In a time of extreme partisanship at the federal level, this was one area where public policy, civil discourse, and private enterprise seemed aligned and sufficiently motivated to find a solution. What we learned, however, is that dollars and access only go so far in combatting a disease that knows no so specific demographic. Instead, it's apparent that a battery of tools is needed to combat and prevent addiction--ranging from strong safety nets, to novel non-addictive pain therapies, and better technology. There is pressure on the NHS due to ongoing personnel shortages, workforce issues, and rising demand. The weight of #administrative responsibilities is among the biggest #stresses that #physicians have to deal with. O.S.L.E.R. (Operating System Leverage in Electronic Records), the company’s flagship product, listens to the clinician’s #conversation with the patient and seamlessly integrates with any #electronic health records (EHR) system to automate the clinical #documentation process for final sign-off by clinicians. O.S.L.E.R. does not record or preserve the #consultation audio in order to protect patient privacy. Instead, any outputs are directly stored in the hospital’s secure electronic #health record.
