So this company has me blocked from making comments! 1099 companies are terrible for healthcare! They do not offer their independent contractors the benefits they deserve. They deliberately misclassify these people as contractors instead of workers, just to avoid paying payroll taxes and the costs of benefits. The Labor Dept is cracking down on these companies and many facilities are being sued and viewed to be the real employer, thus requiring them to pay the back payroll taxes and benefits for these workers. In addition, if there are problems with employee performance, there is not much of an office staff to address those issues. Their credentialling processes are poor because they are not healthcare professionals who really care. When these workers have pay issues, they go through so much stress to get paid what they are due. There are SO many reasons to avoid hiring 1099 agencies! Google this matter and read the facts!

Let's give a round of applause to this month's Shield Spotlight recipient, Carly Tessmann! 🎉👏 Carly has been making a huge impact at EcoShield with her dedication and hard work. Want to know more about Carly and her incredible contributions? Keep reading below! 👇 🔹 When did you join EcoShield & what’s your position/role? I joined our “OG” Chicago branch in 2017 when I was just a little 21-year-old baby looking for a place to settle! I started out as a Start Tech and worked my way up to a Reg Tech, Field Manager, Service Manager, Operations Manager, and now a General Manager of the Chicago North Branch! 🎉 🔹 What is your favorite part of your job? Everyone thinks it’s cheesy when managers or employers say this, but it truly is the people I work for. 🛡️💙 I love coming in each day with the goal to genuinely help my employees. I pride myself on creating as diverse and inclusive atmosphere as possible at my branch and our employees truly feel it! 🔹 What's one thing you would tell someone who was thinking about working at EcoShield? Do it. Even if you have some doubts, push those away and just do it. 💪 🔹 If you could pick just one, what would your "spirit bug" be? Hmmm. I would have to choose a honey bee! 🐝 I am super docile and just want to do my job all day every day! I won’t sting, as long as you don’t come after me or my people. 😜 🔹 Who would win in a fight: you or a Tarantula Hawk Spider Wasp? Pshhh it only sounds scary. Just give me a 25-foot pole and I’ll knock their nest right down no sweat. 😅 Maybe give me a bee suit first... or at least a can of wasp freeze. 😂 🔹 What's your secret talent/a fun fact about you? I have an identical twin sister! We are both managers in pest control. 🐜🚫 Not only is it rare to have women in pest control, but two identical twins is crazy! To be a fly one the wall at our family gatherings... it’s quite entertaining so I’ve been told. I guess it runs in the family! 👯 🔹 What is one word you would use to describe EcoShield? Life-Changing. 🙌

Congratulate, Celebrate, Be Happy for Others, Love for others what you would love for yourself. 👏🏻 In our fast-paced, achievement-driven world, it’s easy to get caught up in our own successes and goals. But taking a moment to congratulate others can have a profound impact—not just on those we acknowledge, but on ourselves as well. From personal experience, I’ve found that congratulating others brings a sense of fulfillment and connection. It shifts our focus from competition to collaboration, reminding us that success is not a zero-sum game. Every “Congratulations!” we extend is a step towards building a more inclusive and motivating community. So, the next time a colleague reaches a milestone, a friend lands a new job, or someone you know achieves something great, take a moment to celebrate with them. You’ll be surprised at how much it enriches both their journey and yours. 🚀

As an entrepreneur seeking, some of the frequent feedback I receive is to tone down my rhetoric on living with PTSD. I met Darcel A. Rideout some time ago and she encouraged me to turn it up - full send. Her simple advice to Self and others to: " 'Get out and meet someone, today! is the type of feedback that moves me forward. Regardless of where it came from, #PTSD left untreated will Grind Your Gears Up. #awareness #mentalmealthmatters #veteransuicideawareness
Some days I say to myself, “Darcy, just go outside today to meet new people.” So today I met Collie Andrews Turner, founder of Heroic Gardens 🌷. Now, I’m watered 💧and ready grow 🌱in this world 🌎 full of thriving individuals 😁

Some dates are always special such as today, the date when we launched Silver Talkies Club six years ago in 2018, based on the inputs from attendees of our events. They wanted to meet more often, know their co-participants better and have more fun and engaging opportunities. Hence Silver Talkies Club was born in a time and age when active ageing, loneliness and isolation among older adults were not spoken about or discussed much in our country. I was in fact told by many peers that I was playing in a small niche field. Fast forward to 2024, almost every new player in the senior care space is looking at addressing similar issues with similar models. Did we start too early or did they start too late? I think it is immaterial for as they say that all's well that ends well. What is most heartening for me is to note that in the pic below all the people who became members in 2018 are still members in 2024, with the exception of one member whom we lost a few months ago. Six years of relationship still doing strong! So we must be doing something right:) Cheers to healthy ageing! #olderadults #activeageing #seniorcare #healthyageing #anniversary
Six incredible years have flown by, and today we're celebrating a remarkable milestone - Happy 6th Anniversary to the Silver Talkies Family! A heartfelt shoutout to each and every one of our amazing members who've been with us since day one, your support and enthusiasm have been the driving force behind our journey. While we celebrate our triumphs, we also remember our dear friend and pioneer member, Arun Bhatia, whose spirit continues to inspire us every day. And a special mention to Akila Krishnakumar, our beacon of wisdom and guidance, thank you for being our mentor and advisor throughout this incredible journey. Here's to many more years of laughter, learning, and cherished memories together!

Queens don't let anyone make you think you are not qualified because of your color or gender. I was blessed to have several Bosses that saw my talent not my color they are Sally Nadler, SPHR David M. Daly and Laura Manz. I'm forever grateful 🙏🏾 Let me be perfectly clear, while these three amazing people believed in me, there were many others who only saw my color which is why I'm grateful for the bright spots in my 26 year career at the same company. I endured, to God be the glory!

When One Door Closes, Another One OpensIt’s true what they say—when one door closes, another one opens. What I’ve realised along the way is that the people around you are the ones who help you find that new door and push you to walk through it.After being made redundant, I decided to take the leap into self-employment as a painter and decorator. It has been a rewarding experience, full of hard work, learning, and a lot of hustle. I found excitement in the challenges and a deep satisfaction in seeing the results of my efforts. It reminded me of the value of persistence and staying focused on the end goal.I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve accepted a position with RACQ. Their values—Show care, Own it, Embrace learning, and Deliver excellence—are principles I’ve strived to uphold throughout my journey, and I’m excited to bring that same mindset into this new role. This experience has reinforced the importance of having a strong support system. The encouragement I received from colleagues, friends, and mentors helped me stay focused and motivated, especially during tough times.Thank you to everyone who’s been part of my journey. I look forward to this new chapter with RACQ and continuing to grow and learn.#NewBeginnings #RACQ #HardWork #Growth #SupportMatters #LearningAndEvolving
