#hiring Friday evening, after a long week of dozens of interviews. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some incredibly talented, passionate sales professionals and sharing deep, meaningful conversations about the art and science of sales, what drives us, motivates us and exploring if the opportunity is a genuine mutual fit. Making a hiring decision is tough as we search for the right mix of experience, readiness, personality, skill, drive, integrity and authenticity. Jennifer Spiro, Anik W., Alex Perry , Anna Taromchi , Marlene Oliveira and I have genuinely enjoyed meeting and getting to know so many great people - and learning “how the universe has brought us together” If you are in the market and interviewing here’s what I’ve learned from those who showed up best - should it help you: - Bring your whole, authentic self to the moment - Read, prepare, do the research, know everything you can about the people and brand you are set to meet and find your way to share it thoughtfully - You represent your brand, your mix of experience and personality- be creative and passionate in how you amplify this, and be aware that in everything you share you represent this - Tell your story, using stories - keep them concise, but tell them really well, be interesting, be memorable - Be a force of positivity, striving for opportunity and searching for greatness - Be curious about success, not suspicious of failure - let down the baggage of your past roles before you walk through the door - Prepare meaningful questions that showcase who you are, what you care most about, even better - genuinely listen and have your questions grow from you just learned from the conversation you are having - Find calmness. You know when you’re feeling rushed, you’re talking to much, and you are buzzing - take that breath, find that calm and slow it down. You are far better once you are measured - More than anything else, like any great sales conversation - know exactly what you want the audience to know and feel before you walk out that door, and focus on ensuring that it happens For those of you I have had the pleasure of meeting this week - thank you for the time, effort, courage and the stories you have shared. Looking forward to more next week as we find the next generation of torch bearers here at Vena Solutions #hiring #sales #jobs #interviews #leadership #techto #torontotech
These are all great points for how to prepare for an interview and I think they are applicable beyond sales. Software engineers and leaders take note! It's for us too! Ultimately in any interview you're trying to sell a product - yourself - and approaching the interview with authenticity, positivity and curiosity, with good preparation and compelling stories will help increase your odds of landing the job, and will make the process more delightful for all regardless of the outcome.
