Great piece by Ben Hemani at Bison Ventures. And I do agree that traditional climate tech has focused on scope 1 emissions, but the next generation of climate tech investors including Vectors Capital is looking at scope 2 and 3 closely as well - including efficient transmission of data and compute. #decarbonization #AI #data #communication #scope2and3

I am suddenly obsessing about AI x Climate and wanted to put together interesting pieces as I make some observations along the way. More articles to come! Many of you told me that my articles are long and they would like a shorter 'give-it-to-me-straight' versions of those. Infinite explanatory voice notes later, I have added a not-so-formal version on Substack too. AI and climate... hero or villain? Some interesting takes here, from Michael Khoo: "They are interested in winning the AI market, and they're going to do anything in their power, including paving over the environment, to get there," "I feel pretty despondent about the prospects of Silicon Valley ever meeting climate targets if they continue on this path." What do we think? #AI #ClimateChange

Very important call for action on AI and climate by Amy Luers, Jonathan Koomey, Eric Masanet and colleagues, published two days ago in Nature. It puts a much-needed spotlight on the indirect effects of AI, which can be both positive and negative, and orders of magnitude higher than the direct effects. It calls for the integtration of AI effects into existing emissions scenarios of the climate community. It puts forward five crucial measures to help this integration. It is eloquently written, without any useless jargon, and thus accessible to a broad public and policymakers. Do read and share!
