When I first started my career in the technology sector, many things then are still present today. People needing to access confidential material, using applications, sending documents between companies, saving passwords in locations they probably shouldn’t….. but some things have changed! Back in my day (almost getting old enough to say that!) applications used were almost exclusively on your local desktop. If you were important or lucky, you may have even used terminal services to access special applications. Then things changed with the introduction of VDI. When VDI came out, we started changing the way we look at our infrastructure and go about our business. It allowed us to start thinking about reducing physical footprints, cost savings as well as user experience enhancements and remote working capability. That benefit still rings true today! The big difference today though, is more and services are being moved online, either as private hosted cloud apps, or SaaS apps. Use cases have changed, flexibility is even more critical and SaaS is transforming how things are done which was heavily accelerated by Covid. In 2023, a study was done that showed on average, a business consumes around 371 SaaS apps, with enterprise companies reaching up to 473. One of the biggest concerns for IT teams identified was the security of sensitive company data. The main risks were data leaks to the public, or former employees retaining data after off-boarding. 56% of enterprise apps aren’t managed, meaning no one pays close attention to things like renewal dates, licenses, app usage, security, and compliance. On average, it takes 7.12 hours to off-board a user across a company’s SaaS apps–without a SaaSOps platform. The biggest challenges in using public cloud for business are security (66%), compliance (60%), lack of staff training/experience (58%), privacy (57%), vendor lock-in (47%), and cost (40%). Insider threats, which include former employees who retain access to an organization’s SaaS apps, are responsible for 22% of security incidents. What does this have to do with Palo Alto Networks ? That’s simple! Palo has been recognised 2 years in a row as a leader in the SASE Gartner magic quadrant. We were also positioned both highest in the ability to execute and furthest in completion of vision enabling us to secure any user, any device, any app, anywhere. Pretty neat, huh?

Shadow IT, the use of unauthorized systems or apps by employees, poses significant risks to organizations. With the rise of AI, cloud, and SaaS, these risks are escalating. The article mentions four actionable strategies to tackle shadow IT effectively: - Automate SaaS Discovery: Leverage browser extensions, API connectors, and rule-based discovery to identify unauthorized apps and maintain a clear app inventory. - Sync Data with SSO Reports: Integrate data from your organization's single sign-on (SSO) system to comprehensively view unused licenses and duplicate apps. - Implement Continuous Data Discovery: Regularly monitor and quarantine networks to prevent sensitive data from slipping outside secure zones. - Gatekeep Data Access: Establish strict data access controls to resist shadow IT and protect your organization's assets. Additionally, we should consider these points: -Promote a Culture of Compliance: Encourage employees to follow IT policies and procedures by providing regular training and clear communication about the risks of shadow IT. - Foster Collaboration: Work closely with different departments to understand their needs and provide approved tools that meet their requirements, reducing the temptation to use unauthorized apps. - Leverage Zero Trust Principles: Implement Zero Trust strategies to enhance security by verifying every access request, regardless of its origin, and ensuring that only authorized users can access sensitive data. https://lnkd.in/dXMiZvY7

Gartner defines security service edge (SSE) as a solution that secures access to the web, cloud services and private applications regardless of the location of the user or the device they are using or where that application is hosted. Netskope is extremely proud of our lead position in the SSE market (3 years in a row😎). But the WHY & HOW are the most important. 🌐 A better user experience. Powered by NewEdge – our global private network, built for speed, resilience and performance 🌐 Better security controls due to more visibility and control. Powered by our Zero Trust Engine: Protecting both approved and unapproved web/saas traffic. Providing patented "instance and activity awareness" Uniquely solving insider risk and data protection. 🌐 A unified and integrated solution. The power of One client, One policy engine, One UI, One private Network. And the icing on the cake is our focus on true partnership and obsession with customer success. Said best by our CEO, Sanjay Beri: Netskope’s vision since Day 1 was to build one of the most positively impactful companies ever in the cybersecurity and networking space—and to do it the right way. We do it with a culture of openness, collaboration, and innovation, and a true belief that what matters is helping fight the cyber-criminals and attackers that cause pain and loss across the world and across industries.
Still Highest in Execution. Still Furthest in Vision.

First thing I asked a customer recently was, “How confident are you that your data is secure across every channel your team uses?”. It’s a question worth considering for any business. In 2024, Data Loss Prevention software is smarter than ever imagined. Today it solves real problems for businesses beyond just stopping leaks. Expert Insights recently dropped a review of the top DLP solutions, and here are the latest features that I think might make you reconsider your approach to data protection: 1. Insider risks - tools now track user behavior and flag unusual activity before it becomes a problem. If your team handles sensitive data, this can save you from costly mistakes. 2. Simplify cloud security - with many businesses spread across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, modern DLP ensures you can monitor and control data seamlessly in the cloud. Perfect for avoiding blind spots. 3. Stay audit-ready - compliance features are now automated, helping businesses meet GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations without the usual manual headaches. This is a lifesaver for regulated industries. 4. Secure collaboration tools - platforms like Slack and Teams are essential but create new vulnerabilities. DLP solutions now protect shared data without disrupting how your team works. 5. Protect what matters - not all data is created equal. DLP solutions now classify sensitive information and ensure it’s protected, whether it’s stored on your servers, shared in the cloud, or emailed out. Now, this is the multi-channel security I talk about when I explain the importance of DLP tools to our customers. Thorough, flexible, and precise.
