Action Mesothelioma Day Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related cancer of the lung lining. It is always fatal and is almost exclusively caused by exposure to asbestos fibres. In the demolition and refurbishment industry asbestos related occupational cancers are responsible for the deaths of many workers exposed to airborne fibres over years or even decades. As competent contractors we must ensure that asbestos containing materials “ACMs” are identified prior to works commencement as part of the refurbishment and demolition asbestos survey to help prevent accidental breakage and exposure to all. We must ensure that all persons possibly working around or with ACM’s are trained and competent following the correct legislation and procedures to prevent exposure and diseases such as Mesothelioma.
