Exciting Developments in the Net Neutrality Debate Yesterday’s #netneutrality decision by the #FCC will surely prompt another wave of research on this topic, which I believe is the right reaction to ensure that the issue continues to be debated on scientific grounds. A recent empirical research article by Wolfgang Dr. Briglauer et al. suggests decreased fiber investments, for example. [Link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/d2VBCn7n] Christopher Yoo 's article discusses the nuances of deviations from net neutrality before EU and US laws and compares their interpretations. [Link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/dumJNs9i] I believe the policy debate on this issue is likely to continue by dissecting and addressing the welfare implications of nuanced applications of deviations from net neutrality, such as throttling and paid prioritization. Net Neutrality restored in the US. The impact should not be substantial because telecom groups were already following a net neutrality perspective. However, in terms of policy principles, this is major! #digital #net #neutrality #telecoms

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken significant steps to reinstate net neutrality, closing loopholes and restoring strong federal protections against all forms of throttling. The FCC's final adopted order on net neutrality reinstates bright line rules, addressing the flaws in the proposed net neutrality rules and recognizing the importance of strong net neutrality protections for all Americans. The FCC's actions are seen as crucial in preventing internet service providers (ISPs) from subverting net neutrality principles and capitalising on technologies that could compromise open internet access. https://lnkd.in/dbc-hqRF

Why enterprises should care more about net neutrality Net neutrality policies are the most significant regulatory influence on the Internet and data services, and they're the reason why end-to-end Internet QoS isn’t available. Net neutrality is a topic that arouses nearly as many people as politics does, in no small part because it’s been a political issue. But nearly all of that emotion is at the consumer level. CIOs and network operations and planning professionals cite the topic as important in less than 5% of cases. Are they right? I don’t think so. https://lnkd.in/euxpMpAA

I am spending time following net neutrality developments, is it worth my time? Such a rhetorical question. Our advise to enterprises is: don’t spend time on it. The FCC's "Net Neutrality" rules, now stayed by the 6th Circuit, may become a casualty of the Supreme Court's overturning of the "Chevron Deference" precedent that was a long-standing basis for supporting federal agency rule-making. Given the policy arguments against the imposition of the Net Neutrality rules, this is an example that may well be ripe for courts to say that Congress should explicitly state that broadband should be under Common Carrier Title II regulation. https://lnkd.in/e-cAPDz5

"President Biden’s FCC defied reason and reinstated Obama-era Net Neutrality rules, a loss for consumers." In the latest edition of Myths vs. Facts, ALEC's Communications & Technology Task Force Director Jake Morabito, debunks the most common, egregious claims about net neutrality, and calls on Congress to free broadband internet from unnecessarily burdensome government meddling. Let’s settle this debate once and for all so our nation’s broadband providers can focus on the task at hand: Closing the digital divide and connecting all Americans with free market, technology-neutral solutions. https://lnkd.in/exYuFuAN
