Excellent article by Kate Moran and Maria Rosala of the Nielsen Norman Group. This sentence captures the current state well: "Current AI tools have many limitations. Like interns, they work best when you provide ample instructions, context, constraints, and corrections" but "have the potential to accelerate your UX-research workflows." https://lnkd.in/dcziqqr4

I recently read this article from the Nielsen Norman Group about the new AI paradigm. It explains how we’re moving towards intent-based interactions, where users tell the system what they want, rather than focusing on the steps to get there. As designers, it’s important to consider these shifts and how we can apply them to create better user experiences. Claire Jin of Conifer Research points out that fear of missing out (FOMO) is driving many companies to embed #AI into every product feature. This technology-centric approach risks overshadowing a fundamental goal of product development: to create solutions that genuinely solve user problems and meet their needs. She argues (and we agree) that rushing into AI-powered solutions without understanding user needs, clearly defining problems, and evaluating AI’s appropriate applications can often lead to disappointing results. In some cases, especially when AI solutions are used without sufficient safeguards in sensitive areas like healthcare, the consequences can be outright dangerous, posing risks to user privacy, safety, and well-being. The article focuses very much on online services and apps, and suggests some valid UX research methods. The overall logic applies equally well to building AI into consumer goods or car interfaces, and also to how AI is implemented within organizations (on how that impacts issues of trust, control, and privacy). https://lnkd.in/dWfvaNEi

Building on lessons learned from integrating with other probabilistic systems (Boolean Satisfiability Problem Solvers), I explore how explainability is key to working with Gen AI. By ensuring our AI solutions are transparent and understandable, we can enhance user trust and create more effective collaborations. Let's prioritize explainability to unlock the full potential of Gen AI. 🤖✨ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gDGWs898 #GenAI #Explainability #AIDevelopment #HumanCenteredDesign #8thLight

Hi everyone! As part of my ongoing exploration of how UI designers can utilize AI tools to enhance efficiency, I've delved into the Double Diamond model and its various phases. Today, I want to share some insights from my research so far. In the Discover phase, AI has proven to be a valuable partner in gathering and analyzing user feedback, helping designers identify user needs and opportunities faster and with greater accuracy. Tools like GPT-based analytics streamline the early research process, transforming raw data into meaningful insights. In the Define phase, I've found that AI clustering algorithms can really enhance our ability to refine problem statements by categorizing large volumes of feedback. This allows design teams to focus more effectively on user-identified challenges and potential solutions. This journey through the Double Diamond has already highlighted the incredible potential of AI in making our work as designers more efficient and targeted. I'll continue sharing insights as I move into the Develop and Deliver phases. I invite you all to share your experiences or thoughts about using AI in design! Let's learn from each other. #Design #AI #UIDesign #DoubleDiamond #Research
