When you open up a web browser, you can be confident that you can connect to any website and speak with anyone, anywhere in the world on any social platform. It's completely accessible and open, so anybody can build a website, share their vision, and grow their business. Most of today's immersive applications are building instanced walled gardens that don't coexist as part of the broader web - just like AOL was in the early days of the Internet. But when we watch science fiction, we've seen a collection of interconnected applications that exist in a single, persistent metaverse, without the constraints of a closed box ecosystem. There is already ample bandwidth and processing power available to meet the requirements of the 3D spatial internet. Every cell tower on the ground and every satellite in space is already metaverse capable on any cell phone. Soon, everyone will have the ability to build fully immersive, spatially aware 3D applications that will operate through any AR or VR device. We need to collectively work towards defining the open source standards and protocols that will mimic the open web. This week at AWE, RP1 revealed the first prototype of a metaverse browser, a new, #opensource protocol that allows you to view #AR and VR content streamed in real time on any device. RP1's latest demo features the scalability needed to support 100K full body #VR avatars existing in one persistent universe, including high quality, immersive spatialized audio. We are excited to share our vision and discuss how we can work together to build the first open, accessible, and interconnected #metaverse. The Metaverse is an interesting concept that will create a platform for us to fully integrate digital realities such as AR and VR. In the future, we will conduct business and socialize in this environment and people can find more economic opportunities on this platform. Of course, we still need to address the issue of data privacy and look forward to its realization!

Designing for the #Metaverse presents unique challenges, particularly when optimizing immersive environments. In our previous version of our qualitative "immersive market research lab", we had overlapping polygons (highlighted in red), which are overlapping elements that consume unnecessary computing power. Despite not being visible, these overlapping polygons take up computational resources, potentially causing streaming performance issues. So we tidied this up and have a new optimized version for research. By optimizing the environment, we improved streaming efficiency, reducing the computational load and enhancing the respondent experience. Thoughtful design and careful optimization are essential to creating seamless, efficient, and user-friendly metaverse experiences. We are still years away from having seamless metaverse capabilities (parallel digital universes that real time in nature), because only a very small section of the planet has access to internet and hardware it requires) but I am noticing lots of brands playing - especially with Roblox. #MarketResearch #MetaverseDesign #immersivequalitative

The tech industry is going through a rebrand when it comes to the metaverse v. spatial computing. The term "metaverse" has long been criticized for being vague and associated with speculative or unrealistic visions of digital spaces, including what we've seen touted as "metaverse technologies" that are really at their core, VR, and AR. Personally, I agree. "Spatial computing" provides a clearer, more practical framework that focuses on the tangible applications of immersive technologies, such as interactive 3D environments. For consumers, "spatial computing" might be easier to understand as it conveys the idea of computing that operates within and interacts with physical space. A new interview published this week provided some insight into where and why Meta continues to invest in the nebulously-named spatial computing / social VR / metaverse category - with the continued vision for this being the next category of consumer and enterprise tech. Aside from an inside view on the bravado that goes into spending billions annually on chasing an idea that has suffered a serious fall from public grace, the most interesting part of this story is the unswerving commitment to virtual and mixed reality experiences, environments, and assets being the future of computing.
