I had the pleasure to moderate a diverse and enlightened panel from a wide range of backgrounds in Tech Diplomacy at a side event of AsiaBerlin summit yesterday organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Bangladesh ,Berlin, Center for Science, Technology and Diplomacy and BUET BMES Student Chapter which had been attended by a good number of Start-up founders from various Universities. "Debunking Existence or Extinction" of start-ups is an interesting discourse which we often address with prevailing constrains the founders encounter: access to finance or mismatch between ideas and viability in terms of market penetration etc. The panelists which consist of founders, ex-founders, UN system, academia , VC firm, impact start-up ecosystem and alternative financing made the discussion provocative and insightful for the young founders from different universities of Bangladesh who could not make it to the #AsiaBerlin Summit this year due to some administrative constraints. From the panel discussion, my takes will be : a. We need to ensure enhanced cooperation between the academia of Global North-South to minimize #digitaldivide and #accesstotechnology divide through all means; b. The access to the ecosystem infrastructure and lab facilities of Global North are crucial for the young entrepreneurs during the tertiary education years and vice versa for the students in Global North to understand the problems and market potentials in the developing countries; c. The budding entrepreneurs need to be mentored properly ( legislation, policies, cultural sensitivity, perception , EQ and politics of technologies etc. with the tools of Tech Diplomacy. We are developing a course on Tech Diplomacy ; d. The market size of the Global South countries like Bangladesh ( ~180 million people) could be attractive for the start-ups in the Global North in terms of economies of scale ; e. The Global matchmaking platform(#GMP) initiated by the collaboration among Climate Club, UNIDO , OECD - OCDE and International Energy Agency (IEA) needs to develop a mechanism to encourage young entrepreneurs in the Global South interested in green industrialization in terms of #accesstofinance and #accesstotechnology. #sciencediplomacy #digitaldivide #techdiplomacy #diversity Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh , Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany ,Center for Science, Technology and Diplomacy , Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH , GIZ Bangladesh , Diplomacy by Networking , CERN Quantum Technology Initiative , EU Science Diplomacy Alliance , Global Diplomacy Lab (GDL) , ESSAM ALGOBAISI , Muhammad Tarik Arafat , Rubaiyat Sadat , Timo Bey (貝天慕) , Leyla Baghirzade , Harun Lone , Sarbojit Pal,Marten Rauschenberg , Natalia Sahagun ,Rainer Seider

A little while back, the Women's Forum for the Economy & Society hosted over 500 attendees from across 50 countries in Singapore with a theme of ‘Tech as a Vector of Inclusion’. I had the privilege to address a plenary panel on 'Understanding and overcoming bias in AI'. Thank you to my fellow panelists for a thoughtful and insightful discussion: 👉 Sam Liew (President at SCS, Chief Executive at Gov+ NCS) 👉 Kisson Lin (CEO at Tanka, ex-Meta & TikTok Strategy Director) 👉 Sharon Toh (AP South GEO Operations, Vice President, GEO Operations, Dassault Systèmes) 👉 And our brilliant moderator Kevin Shepherdson, FIP, CIPP/A/E, CIPM (CEO and Founder of Straits Interactive) The field of AI will continue to evolve -- and I shared that it is incumbent upon companies, institutions, academia, governments to incorporate more wholesome practices and governance processes as they consider implementation. At Microsoft, we have operationalized 6 Responsible AI principles across our processes, products and our people: -- Fairness: How might an AI system allocate opportunities, resources, or information in ways that are fair to the humans who use it? -- Reliability and Safety: How might the system function well for people across different use conditions and contexts, including ones it was not originally intended for? -- Privacy and Security: How might the system be designed to support privacy and security? -- Inclusiveness: How might the system be designed to be inclusive of people of all abilities and gender? -- Transparency: How might people misunderstand, misuse, or incorrectly estimate the capabilities of the system? -- Accountability: How can we create oversight so that humans can be accountable and in control? (thank you to the organizers, volunteers, partners and participants. such a wonderful event.) #WomensForumSingapore #ClimateChange #GenderEquity #BreakTheBias #TogetherWeRise #AIBias Melanie Sharpe Nseir | Kavya Kanchana | Tanja Berber Giordano | Lauren O'Connell | Rachel Bondi

Day 2 at #VivaTech2024 in #Paris 🇫🇷 made a lasting impression on me. I attended a couple of cool talks that day, but there's one session in particular I am still thinking and talking (and writing...) about a week later. For one hour last Wednesday, a room full of a hundred (or more?) people were held captive by The New York Times Debate: #AI Will Reveal the Best of #Humanity Everything about this Viva Technology session (https://lnkd.in/g3zvN5aq?) was ⚡️ powerful ⚡️ ✅ the format: 3 rounds of paired, live debates for & against… ✅ the topic: AI will reveal the best of humanity, debated by… ✅ the brave debaters: Sneha Revanur (Encode Justice) Alex Bornyakov (Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine) Luke Robinson (Post Urban) Gina Neff, Ph.D. (Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy) Patrick Dupoux (Boston Consulting Group (BCG)) Claudia Schulz (Pivot&Co) ✅ the moderator & judges: Eshe Nelson (The New York Times) Shelley McKinley (GitHub Microsoft) Asmita Dubey (L'Oréal) Daniel Andler (Sorbonne Université) Sophie Lambin 🪁 (Kite Insights) ⭐️ KEY TAKEAWAYS: 🔹 The #UN estimates that AI will help achieve 87 of its sustainable development goals #SDGs 🔹 AI is designed to replicate human intelligence. It reveals what we already know about ourselves, including the worst parts of humanity 👀 See also: “the alignment problem” and "algorithmic colonization" 🔹 #GenerativeAI aka #GenAI could have the same lasting impact on humans & our work just as the automobile overtook horses and changed transportation forever 🔹 If AI is going to rule the world, we [the users & the creators] probably need to agree on some rules and regulations to govern it Do you think AI has the power to reveal the best of humanity? Would you be willing to debate on it in front of a live audience in the Midwest this fall? #askingforafriend #thefriendisme 📲 Follow along for more updates from Day 3 of #VivaTech & thank you to Nadiyah Johnson Jet Constellations Milky Way Tech Hub for making this experience possible

Excited to be part of MIT's Innovate the Future program. For 5 days, alongside 33 Endeavor entrepreneurs, we’ll dive into topics like digital transformation, financial strategies, sustainability, and artificial intelligence. 🤖 I must admit, it’s striking that out of the entire group, only 3 women will be present. This continues to highlight the urgent need to promote female participation in spaces where the future of technology and business is shaped. I’ll be sharing updates on how it goes. #EndeavorExecutiveEd #TechInnovation #DigitalTransformation #AI
