Reflecting on our recent Holdina d.o.o. Sarajevo leadership workshop at Ethno Village Čardaci Vitez—a serene setting that provided not just a beautiful backdrop, but a profound metaphor for leadership growth.
Our main topic was adaptive leadership in a complex environment, and one of the desirable behaviors that can guide leaders, as defined by Ron Heifetz, is the concept of getting on the balcony in navigating challenges. Being on the dance floor means being immersed in the action, seeing the details but not the full picture. Moving to the balcony signifies stepping back to gain a broader, unobstructed view of the situation, essential for effective leadership.
Just as the balcony, or in our case, čardak, rises above the ground, offering a panoramic perspective, so too must leaders elevate themselves to gain clarity amidst complexity. However, after gaining perspective, managers need to get back on the dance floor, implement ideas, and seek feedback. In fact, the key to success lies in maintaining balance in our leadership approaches, moving fluidly between these spaces.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to share the dance floor and balcony with my great team members. Sharing experiences, insights, and challenges fosters a collaborative spirit essential for collective growth and resilience. Here's to cultivating a culture of reflection, insight, and growth in our leadership journeys. 🌱✨
