JUGAAD!!! A common term used in Rural India. Silicon Valley is known as the mecca of Start ups. But it's India which is the land of Innovations. Indian innovators do not get funding or world recognition but #Innovation is in the DNA of Indians. Generally we call these innovations as #Jugaad. These small small innovations make life easier, mostly for rural India. One similar innovation is known as "Living Root Bridges". Brain child of the tribes of North East, specifically Meghalaya and Nagaland. Living Root Bridges are made from rubber tree roots also known as Ficus elastica tree. Some of the root bridges take 10 to 15 years to attain the perfect shape and are over 100 feet long. These roots last for as long as 500 years, once they are grown completely. The double-decker root bridge in Cherrapunji and the single-decker root bridge in Shillong are the unique bridges in the world and make for prime attraction in the Northeast among all the living root bridges in Meghalaya. Living Root Bridges in Meghalaya are World Heritage Sites recognized by #UNESCO. Please note that these bridges are made by giving direction to roots by humans. Isn't it interesting and mind blowing?
