This change can't be forced—it comes only with empathy, practice, and a willingness to let go. Once you start to feel a connection with animals and understand their pain, letting go becomes easier. It's the taste that never lets us quit; it’s the temptations, especially for those who have been strong non-vegetarians from childhood(like me). But I believe the more we develop love for animals and can sense their suffering, the easier it is to make this shift. It's a choice, and forcing it usually doesn't last.

Happy Monday, Rebel Vegans! You know I always like to share some good vegan news to remind us that we are making a difference! This week's news is that West Hollywood have announced a plant-based policy which means they will serve plant-based food as a default for city events and meetings! The new policy is aiming to reduce environmental impact, public health and animal impact for the area. To Eat Meat, Or Not To Eat Meat… Is the exact same thing as: To Take A Life, Or Not To Take A Life… When you begin to realise that every single time you sit down to eat, for some 5 to 10 minutes of your day - when you eat meat, you are paying to end the life of an animal. 💔 Their fate, purely to become 5/10 minutes of taste pleasure for a human, and nothing more. A mere component to a meal. Why should morality and legality apply only to humans? Animals endure unthinkable suffering, often hidden from our sight. Forced pregnancies, heartbreaking separations, relentless pain, and unimaginable torment—all for products we consume without a second thought. Lives are treated as commodities, subject to exploitation and suffering until they’re no longer needed. This cycle strips animals of their right to simply be, to live free from harm. By choosing a vegan lifestyle, we reject this system of suffering. We choose respect, empathy, and a future where all lives are valued. I’ve never been, nor do I consider myself now an "animal lover." I don't geek out over cute animals or rush to pet dogs. you don't need to be an animal lover to be #vegan. you simply have to believe that unnecessarily exploiting and killing animals is wrong. that's it. period. if you believe that, you believe in the core principle of #veganism. given that the science is quite conclusive that (outside of certain extreme examples that are very uncommon in developed countries) we "don't need" any animal foods or products to thrive... the idea that a proper plant-based diet is nutritionally sufficient is not controversial in the scientific community… in fact, there’s a damn strong case that it’s the optimal diet for longevity and performance. the consumption of such products is inherently NOT necessary. and while I don't love animals... I do value their lives, bodily autonomy, and sentience enough to not exploit them for my sensory pleasure. and that's why after a over decade of eating a plant based diet, I am proud to call myself a vegan. no hate. no shade. no shame. no judgement. just want to share my perspective on something that is an important part of my life today on #worldveganday.

When we consider the intelligence and emotional capacity of animals, the moral justification for consuming them becomes less clear. It challenges us to explore alternative dietary options that do not involve sacrificing sentient lives, thereby aligning our eating habits more closely with our values of compassion and respect for all living beings.
