CEO at NCD and Chief Insurance Nerd - Relentless Optimist

My friend Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA has an excellent new article out in Forbes about the role that insurance agents often play in driving better health outcomes for their clients, supporting them in accessing the benefits they are entitled to, investing time and resources in helping with medication adherence, making appointments and being a trusted healthcare advisor. It's especially refreshing to see the perspective shared by the CEO of a major carrier, as there are those in carrierland that do not see the role of agent as particularly important and I occasionally hear carrier execs dream about disintermediation. He does a great job of showcasing real stories of what agents are often confronted by and how their knowledge of the healthcare ecosystem as well as challenges that seniors have can directly impact their clients lives well beyond helping them select the right plan. There are definitely agents who are transactional only, it's time for the brokers who go the extra mile to do more to tell their stories and showcase how they can help drive better health in our senior community. The current agent arena has plenty of holes in it, areas where bad actors out for a quick buck can thrive and definitely can use some thoughtful tweaking. But at the core, most agents are conscientious, want to help people, and are uniquely positioned to help seniors navigate the healthcare landscape. https://lnkd.in/dFUj5EZZ

Thanks for sharing & showcasing this Dr. Jain! Pat Salas - you are a SUPER Heroine! What an amazing testament, that details what we as brokers do to remove obstacles & barriers to help Medicare & Medicaid recipients navigate a confusing & complex healthcare system, especially the most vulnerable. We are far more than insurance brokers. For most of us in this industry, we are social workers with an insurance license & have years of experiential knowledge & and undying passion to help others. Versed on far more than insurance alone. Born from many years of passionately & patiently learning how to help put together all of the pieces of the puzzle needed to age in place & live fearlessly. Often our careers started with a loved one at a time of crisis. We are committed to helping our communities get the resources & additional benefits that address critical social determinants of health & are needed to acheive whole person health that addresses physical, mental, & emotional wellbeing. Although Congress & CMS he seemed as of late, to vilify us as commision hungry brokers, anyone who followed someone like Pat or 90% of the other dedicated, knowledgeable, & empathetic brokers in the industry for a day, would be fighting to raise our pay.

This is great, Sam Melamed / Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA. I've seen it firsthand - many of our agents do so much more than sell a policy - they are true advocates for the people in their communities.
