It's always a bit surreal but exciting to track how climate problems eventually lead to new policies/practices – and #Malaysia had two examples of this in a week! 1. The National Sustainability Reporting Framework has been published 6 months after a public consultation on #ISSB standards. Back in February, I spoke to ACSR chair and Securities Commission Malaysia director Datuk Kamaruddin about the urgent need for capacity building in this space. (Read: https://lnkd.in/gx9b2jRS) In the months since, the SC has launched a whole host of new guidelines, certificates and training to support sustainable investments and reporting, with the latest being the PACE initiative for the NSRF. I covered what industry players had to say about the new framework and capacity building here: https://lnkd.in/gp76u53H 2. A circular economy framework for manufacturers was published on Thursday. We often notice the post-consumer results of waste pollution, but forget about the entire value chain that leads us there. In late July, I got to sit in on a workshop hosted by Tomra, where industry and civil society raised the need for a mandatory EPR. (Read about that here: https://lnkd.in/g7BiSzkC ) MITI is taking this a step further by looking at circular production and design – it's "not a low-hanging fruit", but a minimum circular content requirement is something policymakers are trying to move towards in the long term! 🌍 The future of doing business in and with Europe is on the brink of a transformative shift, heralded by pivotal regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and the newly introduced Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). These frameworks are reshaping corporate accountability, transparency, and environmental stewardship, setting new global benchmarks for sustainable business practices. 📊 The CSRD is a game-changer in sustainability reporting, expanding the scope of businesses required to disclose detailed sustainability information. This directive ensures investors and stakeholders have the necessary data to make informed decisions, emphasizing sustainability as an integral part of corporate strategy. 🌿 The ESRS offers a standardized approach to sustainability reporting, enhancing the quality of data and aligning corporate reporting with global best practices. This standardization is crucial for businesses aiming to showcase their commitment to sustainable development in a transparent and actionable manner. 💼 The CBAM aims to adjust the carbon footprint calculation for imports, encouraging global industries to adopt greener practices. This mechanism is a significant step towards leveling the playing field for European businesses and fostering a worldwide shift towards sustainability. 🔄 The CSDDD introduces stringent requirements for due diligence across supply chains, ensuring that companies not only monitor their own sustainability practices but also those of their suppliers. This directive underscores the importance of comprehensive sustainability efforts, extending responsibility beyond direct operations to encompass the entire supply chain. 🔗 For a comprehensive overview of these transformative policies and their impact on the future of sustainable business practices, please visit: Corporate Sustainability Reporting - European Commission. What can you learn from one of the leading lights of #ESG in Southeast Asia? CDL has always been a frontrunner in championing #sustainability. 🏃♀️ The company is the first in Singapore to publish disclosures according to the latest TNFD Framework for biodiversity and nature.🍃 👩💼 In 2023, after the inaugural ISSB Standards was released, they engaged a consultant to assess their alignment. In their latest 2024 sustainability report, they have already begun adjusting their disclosures to meet the requirements. But just how ready are they? ⁉ 📑 We used our proprietary 92 data points checklist to evaluate their #ISSB readiness, and the findings are relevant for all Singapore listed companies who have to publish mandatory climate-related disclosures in FY2025. Don't hesitate to contact me if you want to learn more about how we did this analysis! 🤳 #sustainabilityreporting #citydevelopments

#Metal Easter Special #2 🌍 Sustainability at the Forefront 🌿 In recent years, the #sustainability landscape has seen an increase in reporting frameworks and standards, posing challenges for companies striving to navigate through the maze of regulations. However, the introduction of the #EUTaxonomy marks the beginning of a new chapter, offering a clear and uniform definition of environmentally sustainable economic activities, setting new benchmarks for transparency and comparability. Yet, no significant change comes without its challenges… 🔍 #CSRD indicates a shift from voluntary to mandatory reporting, not only establishing a uniform standard but also introducing a new level of complexity. ⚖️ #CSDDD mandates companies to inspect and take responsibility for social and environmental risks within their supply chains. 🌐 #CBAM addresses global environmental concerns by holding importers accountable for CO2 emissions, tackling the risk of carbon leakage. Together, these initiatives represent a crucial step towards a more #sustainable economy, urging companies to take a closer look at their operations and take responsibility for their entire value chain. How are you handling the increase in reporting frameworks and standards? #greentransformation #GreenFuture #HorváthonIndustrials #metalinsights #letsrockmetal #easter

Sustainability is not a game you can win - but you can lose. Last week, our founder Anne Katrine Blirup was one of the speakers at the twoday FaVa Fashion and IT Inspiration Day. Here are some of the main points from her presentation: ⏳ Traveling back in time: Do you remember when sustainability was fun for the creative people, and documentation was something you heard about in other departments? Back then, you didn’t need to build a solid ESG compliance foundation, because there wasn’t actually that much sustainability legislation to comply with. Sustainability was a game that you could win - but the planet would lose. 📜 Legislation at a glance: Now we have the European Green Deal, the goal of which is to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent. Some of the proposed regulations and directives include the Ecodesign Regulation, the CSRD, the CSDDD, EPR in the Waste Framework - we could go on. Sustainability has become a game that you can’t win - but you can lose. 🏢 Company types, requirements, and data: Are you directly or indirectly affected, and could you go under the radar when it comes to the Green Deal legislation? The general answer to that last one is no. 🤔 Where to start now?: Start with a risk assessment, map what legislation applies to you, get management on board, do a GAP analysis, and map your data processes. Sound easier said than done? Let us help you - that’s what we do best! Reach out to us on [email protected] and we’d be more than happy to have a chat about what you need 🤝 #ESG #sustainability #EuropeanGreenDeal #CSRD #CSDDD #CSR
