One of the signs of a true professional is what they give back to the community. Pay it forward as it were. Staci Thompson exemplifies this belief in more ways than I can list here. With mentoring and apprenticeships in the film and television industry at an all-time low it is up to all of us to help give an education of the fundamentals, which seem to being taught less and less today in the universities and film schools and leaders like Staci are showing us how to make it happen. https://lnkd.in/eqTidnpY

The creative industries are of vital importance to the UK economy, accounting for £115.9 billion in 2019. It's estimated that film and high-end television production alone—one of the UK's fastest growing industries—will require between 15,130 and 20,770 additional full-time equivalent employees by 2025.

Careers By the People, Rancho Mirage, California. When I’m at Rancho Mirage I always wonder what a television producer would rate their profession and why? Let's hear what Diane from Los Angeles has to say who has 5 years in the profession. Rancho Mirage is a city in Riverside County, California. The city is a desert-resort community with golf courses, and country clubs within the Colorado Desert section of the Sonoran Desert. Careers By the People was a vendor at the Fall 2024 CCCAOE Career Education California Community College Association for Occupational Education’s Conference talking with educators about Career & Technical Education aka CTE as well as having me speak at their schools. If you like videos about occupations, please subscribe to my YouTube Channel via my website www.careersbythepeople.com. I plan to post as many as possible. Also, I have a course on career readiness on Udemy.com. Search my last name to find it. “Wysocki” The purpose of these videos is to help students, veterans, career changers narrow down their occupational choice via my experiences, books as well as people that have been interviewed in award winning Careers By the People. Basically, anything thing I learn, can think of or find with the research in the field. #CTE #California #CCCAOE #Opportunity #careers

In 2013, 530,700 young Germans started apprenticeships. In the same year, just under 500,000 Germans were admitted for a University degree. The German apprenticeship system is legendary; millions of Germans never went to University but completed their ‘degree’ via an apprenticeship. What I’ve noticed/realised is that successful policies generally tend to be designed to support cultural practices that have been around for a long time. I think parallels can be drawn between the German system which has been around for around a millennium and the Igbo apprenticeship system. The only difference is that one is institutionalised while the other isn’t. Make of that what you will. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/d3DqSUdz

A friend was lamenting to me that their junior new hire is struggling with managing up. Here’s the reality—WE DO NOT LEARN THIS IN COLLEGE. Even those lucky enough to have internships where they might pick up this skill are few and far between. It takes years of trial and error, on-the-job training, and, if you're fortunate, professional development. One key element I teach in our Managing Up course is that it’s not just about providing updates or conveying roadblocks—it’s also about showcasing your accomplishments. Knowing how to communicate your wins effectively is just as important as flagging challenges. If you know a new or junior employee who could benefit from this, pass it along! ⬇️ The 170-minute Managing Up course is available for free on our website.

What can The Apprentice teach us about recruitment? Last night Sir Alan Sugar crowned his new apprentice, but it isn’t simply great TV entertainment. The successes and failures of the would-be apprentices are compulsive viewing, but there is a serious side to the programme which teaches us several lessons about how to succeed in recruitment and the world of work.
