Christmas musings❗🎄 OK so I know it's really too early to be discussing the C-word yet but retailers' seasonal aisles now feature Christmas products so! ✅ Already seen some good innovation: Tesco's Finest Pane-Toastie! And why not? It's what a great many of us do with our Panetone anyway so they've made one in a more convenient, sliceable format for toasting 🍞👍 ❌ This happens every year and it must be the cause of huge amounts of unnecessary waste: why do the supermarkets include mince pies 🥧 in their initial Christmas product offering? Mince pies have a shelf life of typically 6 weeks so stock out now has a Best Before End of around mid November! Are most people thinking about eating mince pies now, before we've even celebrated Halloween? 🎃 No! I urge Tesco Sainsbury's et al to reconsider and think more sustainably! ❌ I recently made a Christmas cake and a Christmas pudding (see comments). These are full of alcohol and mature with age. Why then do the supermarket versions contain things that you'd never find in your average kitchen cupboard such as palm fat, palm oil, various emulsifiers and potassium sorbate (preservative), even in their premium products? It's a rhetorical question but I really think they should consider cleaning up their ingredients with the current backlash against ultra-processed foods #Christmas #foodwaste #innovation #seasonal #UPF

Whats on your July 4th menu!? 🇺🇸 According to recent figures from Numerator, a significant majority will be shopping at local grocery or big-box stores. Greg Sleter, Store Brands, laid out how consumers are preparing for Independence Day: Where Consumers Shop: - 63% will visit grocery stores - 54% will head to mass merchants/big-box stores - 20% plan to shop at liquor stores Top Holiday Food and Beverage Picks: Using 2023 as a guide, Numerator expects a surge in traditional picnic food brands. The top 10 categories seeing increased penetration include: - Package rolls & buns - Hot dogs - Mayonnaise - Alcohol beverages - Ice - Chips - Sausage - Beer - Dips - Ice cream & novelties Beverage Preferences: - Beer is the preferred alcoholic beverage (75% of those purchasing alcohol) - Spirits or spirit-based drinks (40%) - Wine (38%) - Hard seltzers or canned cocktails (35%) Regional differences also play a role in beverage choices: - Northeast: Higher wine purchases (51% vs. 38% nationwide) - West: Double the preference for champagne or sparkling wine (17% vs. 8%) In the West, water and soft drinks see more growth than beer or other alcoholic beverages. This data is from Numerator’s Q2 2024 Holiday Preview survey, which fielded responses from 5,577 consumers in April 2024, highlighting celebration, shopping, and spending plans for key holidays in May, June, and July 2024. While traveling to #USA I was taken by my family members to a bakery near their house. Now we all know that when you smell bread, automatically your tastebuds get into full action and make you hungry. However, in this Bakery, the most unique part was that they made all our senses of 🍞seeing the beautiful arrays of products being baked. 🥐feeling the different shape and sizes of products 🥖smelling those amazing breads, 🥨tasting regional and international 👨🍳hearing the bread makers talk about the different types of breads. All happening in one location . What that did was increased our curiosity, made us try new items, build the trust with the bakery and establish their authority as people who know baking. What an amazing experience and this is what BRANDING is all about 💁♀️ “Creating the best possible EXPERIENCE for the consumers, so that they can TRUST the BRAND and keep buying from its entire range of products.” We don’t sell products we sell experience that consumers have with those products.
