Automotive protocols form the backbone of in-car communication, ensuring seamless interaction among various electronic control units in modern vehicles. 🚗🔌 Let's take a look at some of the popular automotive communication protocols: Controller Area Network (CAN): CAN is a message-based protocol where devices transmit data in frames serially. It allows multiple devices to transmit simultaneously, with the highest-priority device continuing its transmission while others back off. CAN is widely used in various automotive systems, including engines, powertrains, chassis, and battery management systems. It offers reliability, cost-effectiveness, and flexibility for in-car communication. Local Interconnect Network (LIN): LIN serves as a low-level communication system, connecting sensors and controllers within a vehicle. It complements CAN by handling less critical tasks. LIN is commonly used in body control modules, interior lighting, and other non-critical applications, and operates at lower data rates compared to CAN and is suitable for less time-sensitive communication. Other automotive protocols include FlexRay, Ethernet, Automotive Ethernet, UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter), SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit), and MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport).

📢 Our latest PicoScope 7 Early Access release includes a serial decoder for the 10BASE-T1S automotive Ethernet standard. This addition marks a milestone, bringing the total number of serial decoders available free of charge with PicoScope 7 software to 40 – more than any other oscilloscope in the market. The software is compatible with all current PicoScope models and legacy models marketed in the past seven years or longer. The 10BASE-T1S standard is a ground-breaking development in automotive networking, facilitating robust and efficient data communication across vehicles. It supports multi-drop Ethernet configurations over a single pair of unshielded twisted wires with Differential Manchester Encoded (DME) signals, enabling cost-effective and lightweight cabling solutions crucial for modern vehicle design. A 17-bit scrambler delivers improved EMC performance and makes 10BASE-T1S ideal for applications requiring reliable in-vehicle networking, including advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), infotainment, and vehicle diagnostics. You can find out more about the 10BASE-T1S serial protocol in our latest A to Z entry, or download PicoScope 7 Early Access for free from our website. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eRCbr5cA 💻 Downloads: https://lnkd.in/eKHfh3sB #PicoTechnology #PicoScope #Oscilloscope
