What a pleasure to talk to a room full of marketing leaders from around Australia in Cairns yesterday. Massive shout out to Renae & the team at IPG Mediabrands for having me, and to my partner in crime Sarah Fuller. And a huge thank you to Saul Eslake for delivering his knowledge in such an engaging way. Three key trends we discussed: #1 The fact that the hiring rate is increasing globally, meaning the slowdown in hiring we have seen in the past few years is softening. But with that increased hiring comes the prospect of increased employee attrition. 46% of professionals globally are reporting they will leave their jobs in the coming year. So employee development and upskilling is becoming more important than ever. #2 The two biggest letters in marketing right now - A & I - are having a dramatic effect on the industry. Including on the skills employees need, with 55% of Australian employees predicted to have their job impacted by AI over the coming years. So upskilling & experimenting in this area has become essential. #3 Merriam-Webster’s word of the year in 2023 was “Authentic”. I believe it could become the marketing word of the decade, given the demand for authentic, human-made content. More than 60% of people report they wouldn’t engage with or trust content they knew was generated by GAI. So how are we as brands leaning into authenticity and creating authentic content to meet this demand? Anyone else in Cairns this week? Let me and the LinkedIn team know!
