Not many people know this about me, but growing up in the UK, every time my family moved (starting from Northern Ireland), my accent would adjust slightly. With so many accents in the UK, I was always asked where I was from, so a younger me wanted to blend in and became very aware of regional accents. When I eventually moved to the US over a decade ago, my accent changed even more—so much so that I now sound fully American. If I ever interviewed with a British accent, it didnt matter what was discussed, people always wanted to hear more. Now, experimenting with AI and its biases, its no surprise those stereotypes have been reinforced and carried over. In my video here, I asked an AI two questions to answer in various accents, including about the theory of relativity and the meaning of life. Whenever I asked something in RP, it would always give a more detailed and insightful answer. No surprise when I asked for an "LA girl" accent, the response became noticeably "dumbed-down" compared to various British dialects, including Received Pronunciation (RP), Northern Irish, and Essex accents.
