In just a year, the number of public electric vehicle charging points in the UK has risen by 45%, to 61,232 and counting!🔋📈 Zapmap predicts that we’re likely to hit 100,000 charging devices in the UK as early as August 2025. ⚡ With more EVs on the roads (1.1 million to be exact), it’s essential that the UK has a robust network of public EV charging stations, so that drivers can get from A to B wherever they are. At EVC we’re on a mission to provide the largest roll-out of fully funded EV charge points, creating access for all across a nationwide network. 🔌 Got a site that you think could do with EV charging? You may have seen that the UK registered its MILLIONTH electric vehicle last month! But where are we in terms of the UK's EV charging infrastructure? Well, according to Zapmap, there are currently 55,301 public EV charging devices throughout the UK – that’s a 46% increase in the last year alone! And it’s only onwards and upwards from here - Zapmap predicts that we’re likely to reach 100,000 charging devices in the UK as early as August 2025. EVC are excited to continue playing our part in this collective mission to grow the UK’s charging infrastructure – helping to make the EV switch simple by ensuring everybody has access to an EV charge point, wherever their destination. “The Infrastructure isn’t there yet” “There’s no where to charge” “There’s always queues” Three of just some of the most common phrases used when the subject of EV’s come up, both in person or on this platform. But for a car parc that has climbed past 1 million EV’s in the UK, to have just under 1 million charging points, these statements just don’t hold true. That’s a 1.2:1 ratio of cars to charging places. To put it into perspective, there are just over 8000 petrol stations for the remaining 32 million ICE vehicles. If those average out at 10 pumps available, that’s 80,000 pumps, meaning you are 407.2:1 ratio of cars to pumps. The single most convenient place to charge your car is at home. ChargeUK, has today released “Powering Ahead to 2030” – a new White Paper on the state of the EV charging network. Working with independent transport research organisation New AutoMotive, the findings take a fresh look at charge point provision throughout the UK, to understand the true picture and how it will develop through to 2030. The analysis found: 🚗 A new public charge point is being installed every 25 minutes 🔌 There are nearly a million home, work and public charge points in the UK today, almost one for every fully electric vehicle (EV) ⚡ Current infrastructure can provide enough power to enable every EV in the UK to drive 580 miles a day- 25 times the average daily car journey and further than the distance between London to Aberdeen 🔌 If current growth continues, the rollout of public chargers will track ahead of EV adoption and there will be over 300,000 public charge points in the UK by 2030 🚗 To enable the charging sector to stay on track for 2030, the new Government must take steps to remove grid, planning and permitting barriers; make owning and charging an EV easy and affordable; and clarify and speed up existing public subsidy schemes. "In the STEPS and APS, the global number of public charging points exceeds 15 million by 2030, up four-fold compared to the almost 4 million operating in 2023. By 2035, this number will reach almost 25 million in the APS, a sixfold increase relative to 2023. In the United States, the government has announced nearly USD 50 million to subsidize projects that aim to expand access to convenient charging, in line with its objective of building a national network of 500 000 public EV charging ports by 2030. In the APS, the number of public chargers will reach 900,000 in 2030 and 1.7 million in 2035, many of which will likely be funded by private investment and go beyond highway corridors. This translates to about 55 electric LDVs per charging point in 2035." Data resource from IEA. In this fast-growing industry, how to deliver the innovative and reliable EVSE and charging software service smoothly? One of my strategy clients finds an effective way: Test out different brands with more than 25 models, find out the most competitive one, now he has been building a successful EV charger brand for 1 year. There is no real blue sea industry nowadays, it is tough and struggling, let us just face it together and keep moving forward fast enough. #publiccharging #globalEVoutlook #EVcharging #EVcharger #ABB #chargepoint
