"We are in the middle of a charge point boom." ChargeUK CEO Vicky Read tells Today Programme listeners this morning after the release of UK National Audit Office's report on charge point provision. #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EV
About us
ChargeUK is the voice of the UK’s EV charging industry – the companies that install and operate the network of electric charging points necessary to underpin the UK’s transition to electric vehicles and Net Zero. Our members operate tens of thousands of public chargers, from on-street residential and workplace charge points to ultra-rapid hubs on motorways and major roads. Together, we are publicly committed to investing billions of pounds to deliver and operate thousands more by 2030, creating jobs, supporting economic growth and powering the UK’s switch to electric vehicles. By working together we can ensure that this vital sector has the strongest possible voice and is able to engage as effectively as possible with Government, helping us to move towards the clean future that we all want.

Great article from the Financial Times over the weekend, with operators and investors in EV charging sharing the same voice. Any changes to the ZEV Mandate puts billions of pounds of investment and the transition at risk. #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EV https://lnkd.in/eSVyisuu

ChargeUK reposted this
Like many of us, I’ve spent much of 2024 trying to run the work equivalent of a marathon at 100mph every day and it’s easy to lose perspective, as you chase the next thing on your to do list. But yesterday was the kind of day when you are forced to stop and take stock. I was up early to speak to the Today programme about the UK National Audit Office’s report, which confirmed that after years of “there aren’t enough chargers” complaints, the charging roll out is in fact “on track” for 2030: https://lnkd.in/gfAg_YCg And then I was off to speak to ITV News about the barriers that we still need to address - grid, planning, permitting - to ensure that this progress reaches everyone, so no people or places are left behind as we switch to EVs. There’s lots that needs to be done in 2025 (including confirming a strong ZEV mandate please Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and Department for Business and Trade - because we can’t stay on track without continued investment). But in the meantime, let’s not forget how far we’ve come. 🎄Merry Christmas from ChargeUK 🎄

The new UK National Audit Office report echoes what ChargeUK and its members have been saying, we are on track to deliver over 300,000 public charge points by 2030. With a new charge point installed every 25 minutes, ChargeUK’s members are enabling the UK’s transition to electric vehicles. Though we need to ensure that we stay on track. The government must tackle the remaining barriers holding us back from rolling out even further and faster, as well as publicly recommitting to a strong ZEV mandate to maintain a healthy flow of investment into our sector. #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EV https://lnkd.in/eUj4AQqq

There are now over 72,000 public charge points, with thousands more installed every month. ChargeUK CEO Vicky Read’s speech at GREENFLEET's JUICE conference highlighted the need for a strong ZEV Mandate to ensure charge points continue being deployed ahead of demand. Vicky also took part in a panel at the event – discussing the future of EV charging in the UK. ChargeUK would like to thank panellists Robert Evans of Cenex, Melanie Shufflebotham of Zapmap, Madeleine Brolly of BloombergNEF and Kirsty Pendleton of The AA - Business Services for sharing their expert views. #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EV #juice #charging #collaboration

On the latest new car registrations statistics, Vicky Read, CEO of ChargeUK, has said, “Over a quarter of all new cars are now electric vehicles, which shows that consumer demand is there in spades. "The charging infrastructure needed to support these vehicles is also there, with over 72,000 public chargers currently in place and thousands more being installed every month. "It’s imperative that we keep this charging momentum going and this is why the ZEV Mandate’s sales quotas are so important. They give charging investors the confidence to keep deploying ahead of demand. “ChargeUK’s members are committed to investing £6 billion by 2030, any altering to the mandate will put this investment at risk and therefore the infrastructure that is essential for the automotive sector to sell EVs and for the UK to meet its net zero goals.” #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EV https://lnkd.in/ezMt4gwE

Some incredible figures in here that are testament to the hard work of ChargeUK members. The charging network is growing and satisfaction is increasing year after year. And with most drivers using a mix of chargers it's crucial that they have access to the right charging solution in the right place. The annual survey from Zapmap is a valuable resource with a clear and exciting message about the direction we're headed.
We've released the Key Findings from the latest Zapmap annual EV driver survey this morning. 🔌 Charging on the public network remains essential - While 79% of respondents have a dedicated home charger, 51% of EV drivers use the public network at least once per month 🛣️ Motorway services remain the most popular charging locations, with 58% of respondents regularly visiting them 🚀 Popularity of charging hubs continues to increase - 53% of those using the public network now regularly visit charging hubs (up from 47% last year) 🫶 EV driver satisfaction remains high, with drivers scoring on average 87/100 average satisfaction with their EV - Fewer than 3% of EV drivers would switch back to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. 😐 The average rating for public charge experience satisfaction was 64/100 suggesting that there is still room for improvement. 📈 However, 61% of respondents said public charging infrastructure had improved over the past year, so there's no doubt things are heading in the right direction. ChargeUK CEO Vicky Read: "I’m pleased to welcome Heidi Alexander to her new role as Secretary of State for Transport. "There has been much focus on the EV transition and the role of our sector in recent days and weeks. With a consultation on the ZEV mandate imminent, the Secretary of State arrives at a critical juncture in the UK’s road to net zero. "The Government can take the path towards green jobs, cleaner air and continued investment in charging by sticking to a strong ZEV mandate and by supporting drivers to switch to electric. Or it can opt to backslide on its ambition, unpicking the mandate to deliver fewer electric vehicles onto the UK’s road in the coming years. This would be bad news not just for our industry, but also for the UK’s wider ambition towards achieving net zero targets. "We’re looking forward to working with the new Transport Secretary to ensure the UK stays on track and continues to blaze a trail in rolling out critical EV charging infrastructure.” #ChargeUK #EVcharging #EV
