Some neat snowboard news: Union and Burton Join Forces to Release Union Atlas Step On® Binding Delebio (SO), Italy & Burlington (VT), USA – November 14, 2024 – Union Binding Company and Burton Snowboards have announced a partnership that will bring the Union Atlas Step On® Binding to the market. The limited release, available in men's sizes small, medium, large, and extra-large in January 2025, marks a significant step towards establishing an industry-standard mechanical entry system for snowboard bindings. Burton's Step On® system, introduced in late 2016, revolutionized the boot-to-binding interface with its clean and simple connection. The technology, born from the vision of Burton founder Jake Burton Carpenter, has been widely adopted by snowboarders seeking convenience and performance. Union, a leader in the binding category, recognized the potential of Step On® to meet their own high standards of performance, durability, comfort, and function. Following a prototyping agreement in 2021, the companies formalized their partnership in 2023, with both brands collaborating to ensure the Union Atlas Step On® Binding embodies the Union spirit while utilizing the Step On® technology. "The Burton Step On® system is proven," said Martino Fumagalli, Union Binding Co. CEO and General Manager. "This is a good way to collaborate on a project that can evolve the sport and industry. We want to evolve the system at all levels, and we are all in." "What makes this partnership incredibly unique is our shared, deeply rooted history in snowboard binding development and passion for evolving the sport," added Chris Cunningham, Chief Product Officer at Burton. "We're empowering each other to innovate and push the boundaries of snowboarding." The partnership aims to democratize snowboarding by promoting a standardized connection system. This collaborative approach allows both brands to focus on innovation, bringing new products and technologies to the market while enhancing the overall snowboarding experience. Gigi Rüf, a professional rider for Union, has been testing the Union Atlas Step On® binding and is impressed: "The aluminum heelcup and sleek highback design are amazing. The setup felt familiar, and I loved testing the response while carving. I'm so excited about it, and my son wants a pair too!" The Union Atlas Step On® Binding will be available in new colors in fall 2025, and an additional Union Step On® model is in development for 2026 to cover all men's and women's sizes. All Step On® system bindings are compatible with existing Step On® system boots from Burton, Nitro, and DC.

The GiBoard US is a balance board created to give athletes of all kinds a portable and compact way to challenge their proprioceptive system. It looks like a wooden snowboard with a slackline connected between the curled-up tips on each end and usually features some fun artistic flare like you see in the skateboarding world. The slackline is taught, but the tension on the line can be altered depending on your preferences and weight. Balance training is more difficult when there is increased variability in the surface you're standing on, and the ability to change the tension on the line allows you to progress or regress the difficulty depending on the types of exercises you are doing. The GiBoard build is solid, with robust and high-quality wood, some grip components on the bottom, and a sturdy strap. The design is appealing and fun, with a lot of versatility in how to utilize the balance board.
