Today Ruth Jennings reminded me of something important during our Apprentice Engagement Group information call as our role being ambassadors of apprenticeships by sitting on these groups of SAAB. Authenticity when we are communicating with young people, at events and across social media platforms. It is speaking about the benefits and good in apprenticeships but also sharing the challenges in accessing opportunities and particular stigma that we faced or in the difficulty of obtaining relevant data. It is fantastic talking about positive views but we must paint the full picture. Part of our role is in creating change and impact so that there are less and less negative experiences. Stuart McKenna also highlighted something important and that is in allowing yourself to be vulnerable and putting forward the things you struggle with so you can be supported with opportunities. However, we must have environments that make young people feel safe and supported in being vulnerable and it is our role to promote the way employers, training providers and education establishments can do this. I allowed myself to be vulnerable and highlight I’m quite introverted so I’m not always comfortable in big settings or in talking - yet I expose myself to this a lot so I can become more comfortable and improve. These are just a few things discussed but incredibly important to us as a group nevertheless. What do you think about this?! 🤔 Thank you again to everyone who contributed to discussions and I think it will really make a positive impact in our work for Scottish apprenticeships. #ScotAppAdvisoryBoard #Apprenticeships #SkillsGeneration DYW Glasgow DYW West (Developing the Young Workforce) Scottish Apprenticeships Set Training & Resourcing Rewards Training Scotland Mark Sheerin Lisa Naples SQA – Scottish Qualifications Authority
It was a real pleasure to join you Rhys Howe along with your inspiring AEG colleagues and fellow SAAB members. Such a positive discussion with some excellent future opportunities shared. With the ideas, energy and passion, you all shared, we clearly have an excellent community supporting the skills agenda.
