Curious case of the pipeline industry (for any turbulent fluid transported): Energy consumption in the pipeline industry is more than 99% due to pumping operations. Cavitation, Oil Whirl, Pulsation, or any such mechanical, structural, or electrical faults in these pumps can easily cause a 5% to up to 25% increase in energy consumption while still enabling the pumps to keep running for many months. Less than half of the pumps in the pipeline industry are running efficiently. With the #energycenteredmaintenance approach, timely maintenance can save anywhere from 5-10% of energy consumption in the pipeline industry.
